Thread: 1453 Campaign (New Age)

Default Re: 1453 Campaign (New Age)

    Just a humble suggestion:
Could you replace the Eastern Roman Empire(or "Constantinople Empire"), by now only ruling Constaninople and its environs with the Crimean Khanate? I guess my reason would be similar to that of the removal of the Latin Empire back in the 1220 Campaign (Crusades)Mod.
The Crimean Khanate was to bring down the Great Horde with the help of the Nogai Horde and the Astrakhan Khanate in the decades to come.
Also, I suggest making the Astrakhan region(NW of Caspian Sea) a rebel to highlight the hotseat the Great Horde was in at the start of the mod.
Having the Crimean Khanate as a playable-faction rather than a Rebel faction/region could further check the expansion of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the south-east.

And perhaps you could begin the mod in Winter-1453 or Spring-1454, the latter the year after the end of the 100 yrs War(finally), leaving France and England at peace but with the Pale of Calais the only English-held possession across the Channel in northern France. Currently the English has too much land in SW-France(i.e. Gascony) & Normandy which at the start of the mod, had already lost much of them to a resurgent France.
The final fall of the English in the War came with the re-capture of Bordeaux in October'1453.
With only Calais in possession, a player of England could still plan an attack on France via Calais as what Henry VIII duly did in the 16th century, but only decades earlier.

i would be against that, the last vestigies of the roman empire should stay, their campaing is great fun and it is also challenging.

    this video makes several key points;

    1. the catholic and greek orthodox churches, at least on paper, were merged.

    2. Genoa and Venice were on Constantine's side, therefore should NOT be at war with him.

    3. the remnents of the greek state were grossly outnumbered by the turks and had to rely on western mercenaries, one should not be able to raise two stacks, certainly not in the opening three turns.
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

Yes but other orthodox churches, such as Russian orthodox were not.

Genoese and Venetian mercenaries were on the Greek side, not Genoa and Venice. Mercenaries did not represent their country and sided with whoever paid them.

Genoa and Venice sided with the Romans because they shared a common enemy (the Ottomans) and because they wanted to stop the Ottomans from conquering their trade routes. Without the Ottoman threat all three would have remained at war.

The Eastern Roman Empire had been relying on mercenaries for decades because mercenaries were skilled fighters and they could not afford a professional army or any ships for their navy. The Italian city states also had mainly mercenary armies.

As the Greeks had 7,000 defenders and the Ottomans had 160,000 soldiers if the Ottomans can raise 20 stacks in the opening 3 turns the balance is correct.

Also a stack of levies is not the same as a stack of soldiers.

some thoughts on the 2.3.3 1453 campaign...

The Ottoman elite infantry units, the dismounted Timarli Sipahi and the Serengeceti, are too small, especially when compared with the elite units of the neighboring factions

Some more African factions would be nice, replacing Cyprus, the Teutonic Knights, and Bosnia. Some notable African states of the period are linked to below.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kongo_Empire
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bornu_Empire
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopian_Empire

These factions would keep the Mameluks, Mali, and Hafsids from becoming too powerful. As all of these states have cultures that are already in the mod (Ethiopia [Orthodox], Bornu [Islamic], Kongo [Catholic]), you won't need to change anything except switching the units used by the factions.

Only if they want the same region or they aren't allied.

There's a limit on the number of factions each campaign can have. I can't add 2 factions without removing 2 factions.

Also Wallachia came under Ottoman control in 1415 so they wouldn't be independent in 1453.

    ok then make Moldavia!

That would still involve removing a faction.

It would be easier to add Moldavia and Wallachia to the 1400 campaign as this campaign isn't at the faction limit. However as I have no banners or units for either faction I have no plans to add them until Tsardoms: Total War is complete.
