In my Ghaznavid campaign I've killed a bunch by distracting them with my most armoured units while I flank them with Ghulam spearmen or similar high quality spears. Ghorids have quite a lack of spears I believe, so your situation is different. Try javelins, preferably cavalry. They've worked pretty well in all previous TW incarnations, although those Rajput metal beasts might deflect a couple before going down... there's always ballistae for the desperate, one shot will kill anything IIRC![]()

the easiest, most effective and cheapest way to kill
elephants are ballistas. but alone they really suck. sure
javelin cavalry is effective - but they are expensive too
for some factions. and because of KoJ has no javelin
units at all (infantry or cavalry) a mix of heavy spearmen,
crossbowuntis and some ballistas are really effective.
(for this 50-elephant unit i only needed one spear infantry,
two crossbow untis and two ballistas. they killed over 25 of
the elephants when the pachydermus begann to rout. and by
that they had just killed 3/4 of the spearmen and some crossbow
units with their range missiles.
but it is really sad, that all siege range engines don't have good
aiming abbility and that there are only two engines max by unit
size huge. i expected 4.)

Use Javelins.
Javelins alone are not enough. The best tactic is to combine few different units in attack on/defend against elephants, as jản wrote.
For my own use I deleted 'thrown' attribute from javelin units since their effectiveness was far too unrealistic anyway ... instead, I have a mount bonus vs elephants for two-handed and spear units, biggest for polearms in case of 2h, then axes, then swords. Result is with proper units you can cut them to pieces and no longer cheap hordes of javelinmen are so effective. Crossbowmen are still viable and since I lowered their armour by a bulk (compensated by defense rate) arrows have a use as well (so you have to make a good choice ... try to kill them - doesn't always work, or try to rout them with fire arrows - doesn't always work either).

use fire arrows then they panic among thier own army.

Charge lance armed knights/ghulams into the elephants butts. Srsly. Engage them from the front with decent morale spearman and charge the lanced cavalry into their big old be-hinds. its a big enough target. keep doing it. makes them crazy.
btw, has anyone manage to freak out any elephants? I've managed to rout them but not make their flag turn red and start stomping their own men.
I remember the first time i came across elephants in RTW. It was on the plains of Zama, North Africa where my young hastatis came face to face with these beasts. I was actually shocked by their sight never mind my men. I was so scared to engage them with my gold and silver chevron men that i GTFO of North Africa. Ah, innocent days.
How do u Kill elephants?
I showed them my face!

So,of course it's a game, and elephants add so much colour.....but could it be that we here depart from their historical tactical application?Someone has called them "panzers"......they were status symbol mounts, notably where good horses were not suited(the tropics),and their main impact was in frightening off cavalry that was unfamiliar with them......but they were skittish and brittle themselves, very vulnerable to missiles, especially when getting amongst (brave)light infantry skirmishers, and then they did run amok, causing great confusion and lost battles........with your normal painstaking approach to detail I am surprised that BC 2.01 elephants appear to be "bulldozers".......and that you went as far as to erase the vanilla "run amok "(the famous elephant Achilles' Heel.....)!Sounds like elephant infatuation........
