Default How not to die as Julian with whole empire.

I am encountering some major problems with playing as Julian. From the second turn, all my provinces start rioting, damaging money-making structures and eventually revolting. The barbarians just keep coming and I easily sink below 100000 denarii negative. I am even playing on easy settings but get stuck. Help please!

What have the Romans ever done for us?? apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?

Well, you are only 2 turns in. It will take alot of work to get yourself out of things. This campaign (Iassume it is the 361AD) is a pretty tough one and is designed to test your stratigic and tactical skills to the limit.

I go a few more turns in, all my field armies revolt and I am negative a couple of hundred thousand denarii! No armies, no money to make new armies, lots of scary barbarians and that's just on easy! It appears my skills leave something to be desired

Wait, your armies revolt? Are your generals disloyal?

Yeah, most of my starting generals are disloyal. I try switching them for loyal ones, but it appears they don't appreciale being left in the middle of nowhere for the winter, because I can't afford forts for them to reside when not on campaign!

I guess that is what you get for abandoning the true faith and the Lord of the universe

I usually go for a mixture of religions, whichever is the most prevalent I support in every settlement. I've already tried the all pagan but the jews hated me for it and the majority of my settlements revolted because of it, or I had to set their tax rates so low I made no money!

Hmm, I had some revolts and rebellion of generals but not to the degree you have had! I am in the year 366 AD and making a clear 26,000 odd a turn. Early strategies included raiding and pillaging the Pictish settlements to gain money. Ransack and loot any regained Roman town which rebelled if it was Christian, fording the upper Danube and sacking the Quadi main settlement even as their warbands rampaged through the limes, and generally fighting a ton of Iazyges who eventually wore down all my main armies in the Pannonian provinces so reducing my army wages! I bottomed out somewhere around180, 000 in the red and then pulled back into the black about 3 or 4 turns ago. So: 4 turns per year equals 20 turns or so of debt before recovering.

Things are very precarious in my campaign now but I am at last enrolling fresh troops and building many pagan temples to encourage much bull sacrifices!

Yeah I managed a similar rebuilding in the old version of IJ but this one is more of a challenge!
