Army positioning- no rivers

I wondered if there was a way to fix the change fronm campaign map to battle map. If I pitch a fight near a river on the C map when I actually fight the battle the river's no where to be seen. I think this has been picked up on a few times but brushed aside and never solved- at first the fields were a nice change from mtw2 but now they're starting to get dry
