first, this is not a joke. i really really mean this.

personally, i understand that all people want to write a novel in their lifetime. i also understand that forums are for fun.

but what i dont understand is that i came to see an AAR and all i got was PAGES AND PAGES OF USELESS TEXT!

WHO CARES WHERE LEGOLAS WAS LOOKING TO WHEN HE WAS STABBING AN ORC IN THE EYE!?

WHY MUST ALL MARCHES INVOLVE "after a long, grindind march... (blablablai swiftly stuck my pole in the orcyariyadiyara)"

PLEASE FOR S SAKE GO BACK TO THE OLD PRACTICE OF SPAMMING PICTURES WITH NARRATIVES!

While I think this is going to generate a lot of hate, I agree with you. I avoid text based AAR's entirely. I just don't care about the whole roleplaying aspect, as in seeing a conflict from someone elses eyes. I just want to see an after action report, with lots of battle pics and descriptions for them. Although there are AAR's that have a nice blend of text and pictures, like Dwarven Dominance.

simplest thing ever: if you don't want to read text based AAR's, there's a decent looking cross in the top right of your screen, press it. then find one that you DO like.
nobody is forcing you to read it anyway.

Wow. Just wow. You waltz in here acting like king of the jungle and expect everyone to bow down to you. How childish. I mean, instead of using the search button to find my banhammer gif, you go make a thread expecting people to do it for you, and now you come and define what an AAR has to be. I want to see you write one, before I even BEGIN to take you with even the most rarest of dashes of seriousness. I myself have written an AAR, and while there may not have been many readers in comparison with other views, those that did look were immensly entertained by my satire of all the ETW bugs and glitches and other stuff that just DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. All text; widely-loved.

What defines a good piece of fiction (or at least AAR fiction) is not "how many pictures can I cram into a short space" but rather "how well, how creatively, how artistically they have managed to convey their game play. I absolutely loved the one (can't remember the name) which was a parody of Mordor, and that consisted of, in your books at least 98% , as there was loads of talking and not "orcs were screaming at me" he managed to convey his every action through conversations and added a humourous flair which has made it widely-popular. Now I personally wouldn't mind the details of battles, as I love to visualise these events and the more lavish the description the more m mind has to work with, and I find pleasure in conjuring up images of "towering infernos", and "clouds of arrows"

While finding a balance between pictures and text may be ideal, I reiterate and conclude: its the quality and the depth, not the presentation and images

Nobody has to read anything they don't want to and everyone is free to write their AARs any way they want. Should be an easy enough concept to grasp.
