    Icon4 "invisible army" CTD bug - any suggestions?

    So I am playing the Julii without any modifications. Plain vanilla RTW with the current patch. Computer is working fine, lastest drivers loaded, blah blah.

    So here is the problem: I have an invisible army on the CAMPAIGN map. An army with a single Town Watch. When I mouse over, it shows it is there. When I click on it, I can see the unit. But there is no unit graphic on the campaign map at all.

    When I...

    (1) End turn
    (2) Delete the unit
    (3) Move the unit
    (4) Combine the unit with another unit

    ...the game CTD.

    Unfortunately, the inviso-unit is on BOTH of my saved games, so I can't reload from an earlier save.

    I assume I am screwed, unless someone knows a console command that might help (character_reset did nothing) or a saved game editor.

    Any suggestions?

    What settlement? It's a conflict in the descr_strat.txt and and the unit's animations.

    Don't think so. This is a problem with a saved game, not the initial campaign settings. Also, descr_strat.txt hasn't been edited, so it is unlikely to have an error of that type.

    I just bagged the game and started again, so I guess the problem is overcome by events, but here is a bit more information in case anyone else is searching the boards at a later date:

    • The problem was caused by the "rally point" feature, where you instruct a city to march every unit it builds to a location you designate.
    • A city - it really doesn't matter which one - built a town watch unit. It had been building identical units for several turns without problems.
    • The unit arrived next to the building city, as it was supposed to when a rally point is set.
    • However, instead of assigning a random generic captain name to the new army, the game assigned the name of the generic governor of the building city, so when you clicked on the invisible unit (which was NOT in the city) it showed as the leader name, "Governor Genericus".
    • So the game got confused as to whether or not the unit was actually located in the city.

    No fix that I could find. Oh well. Guess I'll avoid rally points in the future, and make sure I use "revolving saved games" to make sure I can restart from a turn or two back.

    I never used rally points. So this is a bug on CA's part. Thank you for the info. I save every few turns even in the early game.

    You could always try the 'kill_character' cheat. I've never personally managed to get it to work. You'd need to do a search through the forums for it.
