Three young Victorian children watched on in horror as their two puppies were brutally killed in front of them by a neighbour, their family claims.
Poppy, Peter and Katie Frances have been suffering nightmares since seeing their new pet dogs, Blue and DJ, being shot dead and dragged into a creek at Myrtle Creek, in central Victoria.
Poppy, 11, said she was feeding the two dogs in their enclosure last Thursday morning when they escaped and bolted into their neighbour's sheep paddock.
She claims her dogs, who were orphaned in the Black Saturday bushfires, were only loose for a few minutes before their neighbour shot them.
"I saw the man tie the dogs up by the feet, drag them on the ground and chuck them in the creek," Poppy told Nine News.
The children claim one of the pups was still alive at the time.
"I've been really upset by it and having bad dreams," Poppy said.
Her sister Katie, nine, said the man ignored the children's desperate pleas for him to stop.
She told Nine News: "He ignored us when we were trying to stop him and it was really upsetting.
"They were just puppies and they weren't even hurting the sheep."
The RSPCA declined to comment on the incident as an investigation was underway.

reading this actually made me a little bit sick.

does anyone view this behaviour as acceptable? if you do can you tell me why it is acceptable?

It's not acceptable. Not only is it cruel but he jumped the gun on that one, not listening to the kids and rashly judging the situation. Innocent until proven guilty (for the dogs)

Guy's going to jail for sure, you can't just shoot dogs in public, the police probably can if there is a good reason, but citizens probably only have the right if they are going to tear your throat out.

It has to be posing a thread to people, other animals (usaully livestock) or property, however. These puppies were posing no thread to the livestock...what were they gonna do, chew the sheep's toes? (assuming the law is the same in Australia/Victoria as here, I imagine it would be similar)

And what if it's not doing anything? Just sniffing your dog on your property, walking around a bit? Sounds very stupid, but some laws are just ridiculous so no surprise there.

Still an incredibly RASH and STUPID decision by the sheep farmer. Sure, he has the right to do so but in some places you also has the right to reserve the right to shoot trespassers on sight. (right...?) Doesn't make it right.

Two puppies were curious and ran around a bit in a paddock. How the hell is that a justifiable reason to kill them? Punishment must fit the crime, especially if the crime was hardly worth mentioning.

We need a quarter pound steak everyday for the rest of our lives? Do you know how much meat North America consumes? I don't think its because of food, but more of a gluttonus oppulance. I get by quite fine without eating three cows a month.

Dogs can also be a source of food.

Being cruel is not right or wrong. It's a capability to defend yourself and to survive.

I say they're killed for the same reason as we kill cockroaches...

And yeah invasion of private property is punishable by death IMHO. It's just a personal preference whether they should kill cute dogs or not.

What Chukada said. As Eddie Izzard once said, you kill one guy and they throw you in prison. You kill five and they lock you in an asylum and stare at you through a glass window. You kill a million, we just say... "Well done! Must've had a busy diary. Death, death, death, death, lunch, death, death"....
