Friend of mine just completed the construction of a fairly big 30 kv tesla coil. She had some pretty epic fluorescent bulb light saber fights with it for the fourth of july.

A genuinely extraordinary man. Absolute genius, who seemed to pursue knowledge almost relentlessly.
Given that at the end of his life he had no money to his name, it's a particularly sad story how little he was recognized, given his amazing achievements.
Quite why he isn't as well known as others like Edison and the like is beyond me.
Whilst not all of his dreams of technology have been met (transmission of electricity through the sky over great distances, being one example), I'm fairly certain he'd be fascinated by the developments that have been made, and build upon them massively, an inspiration to anyone with any desire for knowledge. Happy Birthday Tesla!
