Default S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat

Wow! I was not aware that they had already been developing the next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game so soon after Clear Sky. Considering how many times the first game was delayed. It seems that Call of Pripyat may actually be a true sequel to the events of the first game, Shadow of Chernobyl.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the series, I strongly recommend you checking out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl, the first game. It's an FPS combined with a lot of RPG, free roaming elements, as well as survival/horror elements. The STALKER games are focused on a near-future alternate reality where a second disaster occurs after years of dangerous experimentation at the Chernobyl nuclear power station, about 20 years after the first occurance in 1986. After much of the fallout passed, the military cordoned off what becomes known as "the Zone", which is an area which has been permanently been affected by the disaster. "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S" are bandits, thieves, run-aways, mercenaries, etc that penetrate into the Zone to find rare artifacts that are created by the Zone's strange gravitational and radiation conditions. Many dangers lurk in the Zone. Gravitational, electric, and chemical anomalies litter the landscape that can be fatal. Various mutated animals and uknown monsters lurk deep within the Zone. And every person will decieve or kill to achieve the ultimate treasure - to reach a monolith in the center of the zone, at the Chernobyl plant - which is said to grant your innermost desires.

The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military "Fairway" operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.
According to the operation's plan, the first military group is to conduct an air scouting of the territory to map out the detailed layouts of anomalous fields location. Thereafter, making use of the maps, the main military forces are to be dispatched.

Despite thorough preparations, the operation fails. Most of the avant-garde helicopters crash. In order to collect information on reasons behind the operation failure, Ukraine's Security Service send their agent into the Zone center.

From now on everything depends on the player.
    Key game features

    • Photorealistic exclusion Zone – Pripyat town, Yanov railway station, Jupiter factory, Kopachi village and more, recreated by their true-to-life prototypes.
    • New story, a number of unique characters.
    • Extended system of side quests.
    • New monsters: Chimera and Burer. New behaviour and abilities for all monsters.
    • New A-Life system, created using the players' best-liked elements of the first two games in series.
    • Emissions considerably influence the world of the Zone.
    • Sleep function added into the game.
    • New player's interface.
    • Possibility to continue the game after completion in a freeplay mode.
    • The game is developed on X-Ray engine v.1.6

It is currently slated for an Autumn release of this year!

They better bug test it this time.
Clear Sky was such a mess when released.

I agree. Shadow of Chernobyl was the superior game in my opinion all around. Far more interesting storyline and had a lot more survival/horror elements. Going into underground labs and whatnot. Beings that this will be a sequel, I can't wait to see what they have in store. It will be interesting to see how they'll continue the plot since the first game was so open ended. Out of its 7 endings - only 2 of them were true endings and both had very different results.

im playing clear sky on patch 1.08 atm.
this will be the third time ive had to restart due to bug in main story.
    sad.

i honestly hope that stalker 3 is delayed by bugtesting rather than slow development. such a shame how many games are released so prematurely these days.

they just dont make them like they used to.

The only problem I ever had with Clear Sky was the game liked to crash before an unscripted Emission blowout. That was 1.5 I think.

Good news, even though Clear Sky was a bit of a disappointment I'm still looking forward to a new instalment.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Hopefully they actually take their time with it, considering the whole S.T.A.L.K.E.R. premise is one of the greatest ideas ever. Heck they wouldnt even need to add much new stuff to make me happy, just release it bugless. If they can do both.. <3

    1. Get a better graphic; STALKER's graphic is unacceptable today.

    2. Get more weapon; I want heavy weapon in this game.

    3. Get a bigger map with vehicle.

    4. The story actually makes no sense; Ukrain government has sent military in and out many times and must know the nature of Zone. So they are surprising their helicoppers got shot down?? Come on, emission once and all helicoppers would down, and emission is frequently like eating meals.

    5. Get more mutants, two new mutants are really not enough for a sequel.

    6. Get less bugs; I am not demanding a bug-free game since it is impossible today, but at least put it into a managable level.

The original had grenade launchers and LMGs, how "heavy" do you want them to get, exactly? Tanks?

I just hope i can actually complete more than 50% of the quests this time...

Mortar, RPG29, Missile Launcher, HMG, etc.

And a tank would be desirable.

That would completly ruin the survival/horror element, which won the first game the most atmospheric game of 2007.

So you're saying that some guy exploring the wasteland looking for artifacts should drive a tank and have mortars and rocket launchers in tow? How would that make sense?
Also, since it takes several people to operate mortars and most missile launchers, how would that work?
Not to mention it would ruin the game...

Wow, talk about completely ruining a game.

That's like playing Silent Hill, but you get a M249 SAW, or playing Dead Space, and they give you a lightsaber instead of your plasma cutter.

I honestly hope they never take your idea into consideration.

Loved the original but Clear Sky was kind of meh. From what I've read they're going to take the positives of both games and mix them into one. As others have said though they need to do a serious bug test this time around, after the success of the last two STALKER games they should have plenty of cash now to do it.

The new mutants arent even new, they were in the original just not included in the game. Most mods had them. Freeplay too.
