My first campaign in SPQR mod

I am very thankful you guys made a mod like this which is made from reality facts. I readed some topics here and i see that lots of you all are interesting about other people campaigns.
Well this is my first time playing this mod and i know that this mod is for Julii family campaign so i chosed them. I wil post some pics about my first turns...

First i did some already suggested moves (i readed em in this forum)
Moved a fleet near Messana so i can pick up a garison for Capua and abandon Messana(1 city against 2 enemies? No way...)
Moved Vibius Julius to Arminium and ordered Flavius and Quintus to walk in Tara's reghion. If someone attacks me there then he will have to deal with 2 pre-marius legions.
No surpize but Carthage made their first move...my armies now must stand against Theophanes mercenaries.
Entered in battlefield, heard Flavius speach and set Principes and Hastati to fire at will.


Theophanes moves his army fast. And after a few seconds the battle begins.



Did you guys forget about my reinforcements? I said if someone attacks me then he will have to face against 2 pre marius legions . Quintus enters the battlefield.



The battle goes well, after a few mins Theophanes dies, and Quintus is dealing with his elephants while i am holding the line...Even if Quintus is dealing with Theophanes army's strongest part I am suffering more damage then him...


After Theophanes death his army flee...finaly my army can rest after the hard battle with his mercenaries...



I lost 1500 men....but at least i crushed his army.

Its kinda unfair that Romans doenst have any Elephants but in history they never had them Anyway i have to deal with them in his battle.... so the battle between me and Hannibal begins

Good campaign but you are wrong about the elephants. Romans used them against the Makedonians and the Britons.

I like the screens, you've really captured the moment in some of them. +rep

But Romans did actually use ellies, although rare, but at some famous battles. For example, during the civil war after Pompey the Great was murdered in Egypt, Metellus Scipio and Cato the Younger the Pompeyan army aswell as a number of warelephants to the field at Thapsus in 46bc, but despite these they were utterly beaten. It seems to me that since the Roman victory at Zama in 202BC where Scipio Africanus butchered the elephants of Hannibal there's been some contempt from the Roman side against elephants.

However, you still have the possibility to use elephants, although you can't recruit them yourself, you can still hire them as mercenaries in certain provinces!

The Battle of Arminium

After the won against the Hannibal the Tara's reghion were added to Roman raising imperia.


As you can see I abandoned Messana and Genua.

Meanwhile the barbarian hordes are marching into my lands...


Lucius Julius enters the battlefield with his city garrison.



And Vibius Julius too...



As you all can see this is an unpleasant situation...i need to fight them while they are feeling secure in the hill...





The Battle begins and you can see now that I have covered all flanks so the enemy will soon run for their lives...



And not after the long time





I did damaged 1 pre marius legion (not 2 like i did in the fights with Hannibal) so I think the battle was good...even if they was in the top of the hill...



It is time to take a personal revenge on gauls...it is time to unite the Italy!

i thnk you are lossing a little too much troops in each victory, you should not waste them since you will lose in atrittion against the gauls almost inhuman resources (really those things are rabbits) by the way i should suggest you to use shield wall when figthing barbarians

Well this is my third time when i try to post something but the page cracks all the time ok im gonna try this time

Gallic Genocide

Its because Vibius Julius did slain 15000 gauls i SS only those 2 big fights.

So the first one, the gauls are aiming all the time for Arminium but i cant let that happen because then they will have a free access to Arretium where my Mines are and then i will get a crack on my economy

It is time for Vibius to act





So my army and the gallic horde stands in the battlefield and all of them are ready to meet the hell. Btw that gallic family member did meet it before the battle started





The battle wasnt that hard as i though, anyway the gauls should better test their skills at olympic games as a runers



I did losed my skrimishers and slingers and the first line always gets damaged but tnx to shield wall the victims are less than in the other battles. Anyway i can retrain them at Arminium( Skrimishers, slingers and Hastatii)



After Vibius were done with retraining he had to clear the filth again out of this land



This time it is even better...
So the gauls rushed in whitout hestitation (poor Velites ...)



And after scraching my first line they proved again that they are best at running...like I'm gonna let them this time





Again damaged are Velites, Slingers and some of Hastatii( a little bit but nothing serius at least no unit were dismissed ) So its time for Vibius to visit Arminium barracks again

don't worry, keep practicing and you'll find yourself able to best them with hardly any casulties - you'll also get practiced at fighting with depleated legions, a useful skill later on

Yeah I usually think a unit isn't depleted until they have less than 100 men.

usualy i am used to fight more like an barbarian, controling hordes and you know, ambushing with massive forces. But i have some tactics with romans too, for example if i need to fight against 2 big armies then i put my army in the corner(those red lines in the map) where opponent cant reach my general until they broked trought my lines and skrimishers and archers are protected too because enemy units cant reach them too.
2nd tactic : i call it fortress because if i need to fight against massive (Realy massive) forces that comes from all sides than i just put my army in a square with 2 lines, maybe 1 if i am out of soldiers, anyway inside sits the general with archers, maybe with some siege engine or skrimishers, horses too ofcourse, but if i have some trees nearby i just hide them there and wait for an perfect time to ambush them. Dont know why but these formations works realy great and i have never lost if i am using them.

Ok after those 2 victories against gauls Vibius Julius sieged Patavium(i took a chance while i still got that)





Patavium now is an easy target...this town is fallen already





I am trying to conquer Mediolanum, meanwhile 2 pre-marius legions are marching to Sicilia

yep tactics aren't going to help you if you only have half a legion against the germans.
