    Default Ghosts

Been watching Ghost Hunters International all day, so I got ghosts on the brain. I've always thought that ghosts are the manifestations of souls who died yet have been unable to go into the beyond. Yet Ghost Hunters seems to be saying that ghosts are just the energy and consciousness of a person that has been attached to a certain object.

I'd like to know where the community stands on ghosts. And if you believe in them, do you hold the former or the latter view?

Edit: I wanted to make a poll, but I don't know how.

I've always believed ghosts were the product of over active imaginations in unfamiliar surroundings.

Shows on of all places like the History Channel about this, without any real scientific rigor makes me want to vomit.

I think Ghost hunters does a better job than most other shows at being scientific. They dismiss most of the evidence they find as explainable, unlike the Othersiders and other such shows.

I don't believe in ghosts, and I don't believe in souls or 'energy' either. So your entire opening post was complete gibberish to me

Debating whether Ghost Hunters or the Othersiders is the most scientific is a lot like debating whether tissue paper or cardboard would be the best at stopping artillery shells.

What I don't understand about ghosts is why are they scary? As if they are somehow deadly powerful entities?

If a ghost is the soul of a person then do we not all have a ghost of our own? And if so wouldn't our ghost be equally as scary and powerful?

So if a ghost is haunting me, what do I really have to fear? Once I'm dead I can haunt his a** right back. Theres nothing to fear about them.

No, ghosts don't exist. It's quite pointless for a ghost to exist.

It's the in thing to do after death now. Even Michael Jackson has come back as one.

I don't think it's likely, nor do I believe in them.
I believe in reincarnation, so I see no reason why one's spirit would remain in the physical universe.

Perhaps it happens when someone doesn't want to let go of their previous life and they're stuck in a limbo between lives.

Assuming they have a choice. That'd work if the physical manifestation of the soul is conscious. But I believe that the physical manifestation of one's soul is merely the electric energy produced by the body. Thus, in my view at least, it dissipates as soon as one dies.

PS) Oh, and a disclaimer: I fully accept that my opinions are my opinions.

Well, consciousness? Depends, remember that Ghost Hunters describe different kinds of hauntings. Once of which is 'residual' - same thing happens every time a specific situation is noticed, however it may not happen every 1 hour but still the same pattern. So if a ghost is residual, and performs the same pattern, I can't agree that it is intelligent and therefore conscious.

    However Intelligent hauntings, of course.

I believe in Ghosts, I have seen a few. But im not sure where I stand.

I do however understand that it is either, soul of person that is still here for whatever reason. Or otherwise left over energy of a person after they have died. But does that mean that Residual Haunting is like a replay of a movie? Or is the soul stuck in not reacting for a period of time?

The reality is far stranger then the fiction.

As was the case back then, when people thought rain fell from a pool in the sky, it turns out that water actually completely freaking changes and starts floating upwards through the air in a white plume, then that white plume sends super powerful bolts of electric shock surging through the atmosphere.

First, I wouldn't believe anything Ghost Hunters said, as its just a bunch of baloney. Secondly, they also aren't the souls of departed people. People die and leave the earth, not hang around to haunt people. Any real "ghosts" would be figments of the imagination, the result of physical processes that we do not understand yet, or spiritual activity like angels or demons.

When exactly was the existence of ghosts confirmed? I seem to have missed it.

Anyway, while I certainly don't believe in the existence of ghosts or any other supernatural beings, the belief that I have been most exposed to is that they are the souls of dead people who haven't found peace and are still lingering and "haunting" certain areas even after death.

I never really delved much into topics like this, but I'd say that perhaps the Ghost Hunters' explanation is... somewhat... plausible if you take it in the context of the Tao system of belief (at least, if Tao is what I think it is, I could be off track here). Kind of random connection to make, but meh, just throwing that out there.

While its hard for an someone like me to believe in something supernatural like ghost, I do sometimes wonder how somethings can be explained.

I would totally be against the idea, if I had not experienced something myself, that to this day, I cannot explain.

Long story short, I was staying with my friend and her grandmother who lived in a hundred and fifty year old house. It had plenty of ghost stories, and I had heard them all. Well one night, we were both home while her grandmother went to the store. We kept hearing the pantry door in the kitchen open and close, so we went to investigate. She was always convinced that the ghost were friendly and just liked jokes. I approached the pantry door laughing, because I had to come up with some logical explaination. Suddenly, as I reached for the door, it swung open and a shadow rushed out of the darkness and knocked me over. Even my friend saw it.

Both of us were a little freaked and we stayed out in the car until her grandmother got home. I still cannot explain what it was, so I have to believe something may be out there.

Generally I believe in what's considered to be the rational side of thing but when it comes to ghosts I deviate from the logical path. I don't know by what means they come into being but I certainly feel there is something at least like ghosts out there. I've had enough experience with whatever the hell they are at my grandmothers house to grant me these feeling toward the subject. It's not tied down to one event it's been a lifetime of mysterious events, unexplainable feelings, and impossible sights.
