I have seen some before but keep forgetting about them, are they just for fun or do they actually affect the nations points etc..

I don't know i never got them before lol
Strange events?
I've seen that before, but to my knowledge, it is not an in-game event but only a short note on some historical accident that happened during the year you're in now. Similar to "Sebastian Bach creates a famous composition" or "Black Beard killed".
just informative , some extra info on historic events , no influence on gameplay unfortunately
Yeah I got that a couple of nights ago and had a look to see if any of my churches were damaged but came to the conclusion that it was just a historical info message.
They included the accident in Falun's copper mine where a miner died and his body was preserved. I've been in that mine =)
Events should have some actual effect on gameplay. Plagues, population booms, revolt risk peaking. Europa 3 had a lot of these and they mixed up the gameplay a lot.
Yeah, Rome TW did have these features and was interesting. All I've gotten from Empire so far is stupid lectures on history. While fascinating they serve zero use and does not engage me in the actual campaign.
Whoever lights the torch of war in Europe can wish for nothing but chaos.

The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other*d die for his.

I remember back when the game was released that someone reported that it was possible to find pirate treasure or something. Is this right or were they lying? cause i certainly have never found anything like that.
i heard its possible to find treasure from many people. Though i never have.
I got one as Austria of a vampire story in Transylvania, about this Peole dude who broke his leg and started biting people, and then when they found his "dead" body, it still had blood flowing through his veins, along with the other dead victims, they stabbed their hearts with stakes. That is where the vampire-neutalization method comes from.
