EDB querry

I am not sure where to post this so trying here??? EDB tutorials do not allow posts..

I do not know if thuis causes probs in text,but in assigning units to EDB in Lusted's TE Gold I noticed this:

city_barracks requires factions { barbarian, carthaginian, armenia, pontus,, egyptian, greek, roman, } (the same for army_barracks).

Double checking to RTW vanilla,I found it was copied from there. Maybe it means little,but I am not sure now why this line is faulty like that and should it be instead,as with miltia_barracks ?

militia_barracks requires factions { barbarian, carthaginian, eastern, parthia, egyptian, greek, roman, }

I have changed my faction lists to all due to unit inclusions,but something to consider as maybe CA boobed..? ^_*

I do not know if anyone has spotted this also and pondered??? Aradan,Squid or anyone else have thoughts on what gives?

I don't understand your point...are you worried about that double comma after pontus or about the fact that in militia barracks there is eastern and in city barracks there is ...armenia, pontus, ...?

In the first case, it might be a little typing error, just delete a comma.
In the second case, that's because parthia in vanilla RTW had less infantry units than armenia and pontus, so city barracks were useless and parthia was not allowed to build it. Maybe the same thing happens in Lusted's TE.

Sorry,I do not know if the double coma causes any glitches in the game or if there was meant to be another faction between the comas- ,?, but was left out accidentally? I did not look at vanilla unit rosters fully to know what was missing so perhaps it is a typo as you suggest. I will double check TE Gold again also for unit rosters and barracks to see if OK or not? Just had me confused about the double coma thing.

CA left some bugs and potential CTD sources in the Vanilla game. like this one or the descr_names.txt file. Not to mention some models with wrong parts.

It is to know if a typo,as it seems with the ',,' double coma,has any adverse game effect? As I read several instances of even slight typos causing CTDs. I am not a conversant modder so I was worried. Even the BugFixer did not list this... I checked the EDB guides and found nothing also,so had to ask?

Secondly was there meant to be a faction listed which was forgotten? Your reply before seems to straighten this out though.

Yes, now it's clear!

Almost surely they forgot to put parthia. I still have to understand why in vanilla RTW they put eastern and then parthia, since parthia is an eastern faction!! So probably they replaced eastern with pontus and armenia, deleted parthia and left that comma there.
I don't know if it can cause CTDs, but to be sure, delete that extra comma.
Another tip: try to search the whole EDB for entries like that, "eastern, parthia". If there is eastern, there is no need to specify parthia separately.

OK thanks,sorry for the confusion,ahem 'fogginess of war' aka 'old age'...heh. Yes I have had that querry also,since did not make sense to repeat a faction already catered for in Culture 'eastern'(pontus,parthia & armenia). But to give you more of a slight headache,have you seen the 'Carthaginian' unit repeats??? Oh ayeeeeeeee. recruit "carthaginian city militia" 0 requires factions { spain, } & recruit "carthaginian infantry" 0 requires factions { spain, } but carthage seperate lines...??? Would be easier to just make it requires factions { spain, carthage, } .

I have looked at RTW vanilla files..Pontus & Armenia are OK,but yep...Parthia only to building level 2 for units,but 4th for the other 2 factions. So just deleting coma best bet. OK looking at 'eastern,parthia...

That's different, spain and carthage own to two cultures (barbarian and carthaginian respectively) so maybe they have different requirements, like different hidden_resources, or spain gets a recruitment bonus and carthage don't, for example.

Then, parthia has only 2 levels of barracks because it has only 2 infantry units, if I remember correctly...Hillmen and Sparabara, so there is no reason to make them build a 3rd or 4th level.

I haven't looked a vanilla EDB for years, but I'd say to leave it as it is, besides those useless comas or stuff like "eastern, parthia"...

As always, backup your file first!

If your making changes to the file, you might as well get rid of the CA errors anyways.

Yes,true. I have removed now all the 'eastern,parthia' references with just 'eastern' and that double coma with just one. I use the BugFixer found in downloads also which helps. I do not know all the errors from CA so was surprised with this.

Ok I have that will double check again,hmm I found some things with ancilliaries like,coded for years and not turns,so had - 'number' turns listed,lol. I fixed by starting turn set to '0' and added turn difference,ie 0-60 etc,rather than -20 to 40 as example. But for traits I have to check. Thanks for input.
