Default HELP: Editing the model.db file- changing weapons ?

Hello ! I would like to ask for your help regarding changing the look of a weapon that a unit holds in battle. I'm not worried about animations- the unit i wish to edit already has appropriate animations for what i want.

Essentially, I'm trying to make a new unit for a personal mod (of a mod) which i don't intend to release. In the original mod, the unit I'm using as a base uses a shield and axe. What i want to do, is change the axe to a sword. That's it. i can deal with the EDU and other aspects of it as needed, but im stuck on how to change this. The model.db file is alien to me, can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance ! any help would be appreciated. Bear in mind i am relatively unskilled when it comes to modding, so i really dont know much of what im doing in model.db (unlike with the EDU, which I *can* edit).

To change the weapon you must edit the model itself, not the modeldb...

Yes, you will need to first download a convertor (either GOM or GOAT - search the downloads section for these) and convert the .mesh file of the model to an ms3d file. Then it's just a relatively simple matter of taking a model with the weapons and in Milkshape deleting everything except the weapons, then taking your base model and deleting the weapons. GOM has a merge function which makes it very easy - first select the base model and merge with the weapons.

The Skins, Models, and Animations forum has lots of threads about this. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/searc...earchid=107329

You will have to edit the model and then assign the proper animation to the model in the modelsdb unless you wish your unit to still use the mace animation for the sword. Without changing that also, you will not be able the see the kill animations associated with the sword unit. Or you could cheat once you've changed the model and just change the "soldier" entry in the edu. Just change it to a current sword unit to also use sword animations.

There are several tutorials about swapping weapons in the aptly named tutorials section of the mod workshop.
