    Default need help city to castle modification

    hello there.
    i was trying to change a minor city to a castle or fortress hopefully but no can do.
    i did a little modding or tweaking the EDB [export descr buildings] file and i believe i got it right after 20 mins.
    BUT
    the game wouldnt start up pass the loading page and the log file stops at....

    now i believe that if there is an error on the script it would point out the reason and even the location of the error. but it just stops there.
    i dont comprehend if theres no explanation....

    here is the modifications i made below that leads to an unexplained no go.

    building convert_to_castle
    {
    convert_to convert_to_city
    levels village_to_wooden_castle small_town_to_stone_keep large_town_to_castle city_to_fortress

    city_to_castle [or fortress] city requires factions { northern_european, mesoamerican, middle_eastern, eastern_european, greek, southern_european, }

    cost 15000
    settlement_min city [ minor_city here leads to an error]
    upgrades

    any ideas?
    please do help....

    Kensai I'm pretty sure that there are limitations to which settlement levels can be converted but I cant remember which specifically. I'll move this thread to the Mod Workshop because a lot more modders hang out there than here.

    I might be misunderstanding this, but what exactly are you trying to achieve?

    1. Changing the conversion
    2. Changing the city

    Then you are working with the wrong file. To change an individual city, you will need to change the entry in the descr_strat.txt file. As an example I am using London from Vanilla:

    Before

    Code:
    settlement
    {
        level city
        region London_Province

        faction_creator england
        building
        {
            type core_building stone_wall
        }

    After

    settlement castle
    {

    I think he means he wants to let Cities become Fortresses by converting them using the conversion buildings in a campaign. If so, your main problem is there's no such thing as "minor_city". The levels are:

    village
    town
    large_town
    city
    large_city
    huge_city

    So the one you're looking for is city. The conversion lines read the building entries of the connected tree, with the first entry being 0. So convert_to 0 = motte and bailey, convert_to 1 = wooden castle, convert_to 2 = castle, convert_to 3 = fortress, convert_to 4 = citadel.

    I'd guess your problem was simply that you had minor_city instead of just city, the rest of it should conceivably work and many others have included further conversion chains(I personally removed castles from my mod).

    well actually i already knew that theres no such thing as a minor city in the script.
    because an error log would point that out to me.
    i put in city and the log would just stop at the above example without stating a reason why the game stopped loading.
    and i put 3 too at the convert value for fortress of course

    and yup, [gigantus]
    i was trying to change cities to castles or fortress during the game.
    problem is once the city becomes a city, the option to change is taken away....

    As far as I know settlement converting is hardcoded

    As far as I know settlement converting is hardcoded
    Check the end of the EDB to be shown otherwise:

    Theses are the last lines from my trace log after entering the same lines. Guess it looks for those TGA files in the ui folder for the city conversion (which are obvoiusly not there).

    CTD means crash to desktop, CTM means crash to menu, the main errors that the engine will give.

    You forget to edit the export_buildings in /mod/data/text I'm afraid.
    The thing wont even open the main screen when you miss that. Adding a conversion possibility is regarded by the engine as a building with a effect if I'm not mistaken, and this fault is the consequence of a building missing the export_buildings data (in combination with a missing .tga? I'm not sure if it will use default settings for .tga).

    Ran across this problem a couple of days ago when I started to mod the EDB, and it took some time for me to figure out exactly which of all the possible errors I encounterd and what the solution would be.

    Missing TGA should be irrelevant. All TGAs should default to the generic building look if they lack an image.

    It's easy Just follow this tut: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=77577 but only step 1, 2 and 7 (8 and 9 may be useful as well) of the part "adding a new guild". You dont need the rest.
