Welcome to the Zocalo, if Star Wars and Star Trek should have their own threads and social groups, so can Babylon 5.

Babylon 5 came from the mind of J. Michael Straczynski. It's the first TV series to have a pre-planed story arc. The story is set on the space station named Babylon 5 between the years 2258-2262. It a great story about a galaxy fighting for chaos and order. The series launch one spin-off and a few made for TV & DVD movies.

Also note remember: The Corps is mother, the Corps is father.

Shame the last year of the series and the spin offs sucked.

Crusade was a good spin off. It never got a chance because of TNT decided that they wanted to control the series.

Legend of the Rangers didn't get enough ratings because of a MAJOR NFL playoff match.

The Direct to DVD sets didn't continue because WB didn't want to give JMS any more cash to produce it.

Yeah, JMS is not interested doing more B5 anymore. He got his 5 year story arc.

BTW if you have any questions about B5. Post it here.

In the beginning was the best!....

Anyways, B5, i admit was more comedic and loving then DS9, and this is coming from a trekkie. Both have there pros and cons, but B5 seems to have given me that family feel with the characters.....

anyways, SHADOWS FTW, the show labeled them in the beginning as **** but we all know it was the Vorlons who were the baddies! CHAOS FOREVER!....

Legend of the Rangers is worst of the movies...

Didn't care much about Crusade either. Needs less technomages and more politics and Centauri.

I need a new, good, series of this to watch. Too bad it probably will never happen.

ya once the two species (shadows/?) were taken away by the superior/mystical aliens the show began to lose its flair. THen the last season seemed to be thrown together in a rush. Good stuff though.

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

Well the distributive PTEN was going out of buisness during the 4th season. JMS was worried that he was not going to finish his work, so he edited the 4th season that it could work if B5 was canceled. Luckily TNT picked it up to finish it's last season.

Always hate to see good shows get down played because of a rocky ending.

Nah they decided to go themselves.

But yea first half of 5th season was quite bad... no love for telepaths. Second half was already much better.

The best story-line of tv sci-fi series. I watched all of it until Sheridan went beyond. The spin-offs were typical network milking of a francise, and not especially brilliant, mostly as they lacked the epic quality of the original.

All the charactors went on a journey, but I think G'Kar's was the most interesting, his charactor changed considerably from irrascible xenophobe to wise leader very believably.

True but for me Londo was the most interesting one.

    True tragic hero.

Yeah didn't work out too well for him did it? Peter Jurasik was very good in the role, and paired with Andreas Katsulas= win.

The best B5 moment for me was when the narn were beating to death the centauri who ordered their world bombarded while they had the choir music from the station in the background.

There's no running around down here...

I've watched plenty of sci-fi but I remember the scenes from B5 very vividly, thanks to it's good direction.

Best space opera ever! IMHO, only the new Battlestar Galactica comes close in quality. I remember watching it on TV when I was a teenager and I was blown away by the progression of the story. I didn't like it much at first, but by the end of season 1 it was definitely something to watch. Season 2 started out even better than season 1 ended, and by the time it was half way through, it was clear that things would only get better. Seasons 3 and 4 were simply awesome. Unfortunately, the last season was not as interesting (due to JMS compressing season 4 to end the series there, which made season 5 rather slow paced), but I did like Crusade. I knew that, like B5, it would start slow and pick up the pace in some way that wouldn't be clear from the beginning, but sadly many more people didn't see it that way...

I watched the first three seasons again a couple of years ago, thinking I might have idealized that series because I was young when I first watched it, and found out that it is as good as I remembered it. Spaceship maneuvers are too slow in season 1 (they slowed everything down so viewers could see what's going on - in a realistic portrayal you'd only see empty space and maybe a starfury darting by for a split second - but they overdid it at first), and we can get better graphics in our computer games these days, but things improve in the next seasons and there's enough immersion that you don't notice it much.
