    Hey thanks for the tip!

I was playing empire with my custom battle music taken from movie sountracks for months . i always hoped that someone would find a way to get rid of the loop thing and you did. Before this i had to edit the music to fit the loop and that wasn't much fun at all. I might share my music pack soon, then you surly worth the credit.

    Thanks for sharing, appriciated REP+

I've done everything to a t, and even played around with it afterwards, moving files the sound and sound/events files to the data folder, etc.

But I tried your approach to the letter. The only problem may be that I am using Tuca_music.pack and adding the directories there, and I noticed that the sound files in there were lowercase. However I don't feel this is the problem. When I finished all your instructions I had a tree in the tuca_music.pack that looked like this:

    tuca_music.pack
    +db
    -factions_tables
    /factions
+music (I won't bother naming all the tracks)
    -campaign
    -frontend
    -land
/all the music files that I wanted renamed properly
    -naval
    /same as above
    -prebattle
    -results
    +sounds
    -events
    /sounds_events_music.csv
    +sounds_packed
    -sound_events

The tuca music pack is already used in the empire script so I don't know what is wrong.

Brenil, how do you change the loop points? My Lully Passacaille from Armide and marche pour la ceremonie des Turques keep cutting out after about a minute and starting again (pre and post battle music)

Pre-battle music? As in the deployment music? Within the files provided those loop points are removed (if I remember correctly, they may not have had loop points at all to begin with), so if you have the proper formated .mp3 it should play the entire .mp3 and then play again once it is over with. The post-battle music doesn't have loop points at all. So if it isn't working, perhaps it is your .mp3 file; try another .mp3 and see if that works.

What do I have to do if I want to remove the battle music entirely, but keep the campaign music? It's quite annoying to have to tick/untick the music volume slider every time I play a battle.

    Exanimous,

The tree looks right from here, are you certain that you renamed your land and naval files the exact same as they are named within the modified sound_events_music.csv? Also, do you have any other mods that modify the sound_events_music.csv or sound_events files? If so, this could be causing a conflict. Does the other music from Tuca's pack work, but only the battle music isn't working? Does the default battle music play or something else? Also make sure that your Data directory is clear of any old files other than necessarcy ones and .pack files.

Vicjun, if you wish to 'remove' the battle music, all you need to do is record an .mp3 that is silence and follow my original steps to replace each battle music track. The silence.mp3 can be only a couple seconds long and considering that the loop still exists it will loop a silent track over and over and therefore you will not have any music.

It doesn't work. I still get music in the battles. This is what the modpack looks like in the packfilemanager:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

All the files are copies of an original blank mp3 file, about 1.5 seconds long.

And as you can see, it's loaded at the top in the modmanager (I was supposed to move the .pack file back to the data folder, right?):

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I'm using my own drum mod. Maybe this interferes?

    Vicjun,

Your issue is that you incorrectly named your .mp3 files. All of your files look like this:

    MusicLandMUS045_BATTLE_Tribal_ORC_[LOOP].mp3

    When it should look like:

    MUS045_BATTLE_Tribal_ORC[LOOP].mp3

In short, you are not supposed to have anything infront of MUS### as that isn't how it appears within the sound_events_music.csv, which is why your music, or lack thereof, isn't working properly.

I mean when you first attack an army on the campaign map
Also, can I change the volume of Campaign music in the .csv file? or do i need to edit the sounds with something?

Pre-battle tunes haven't been touched and after looking at the .csv file it appears they too have loop points, which would explain why your .mp3 isn't working correctly. I could upload a newer version of these files to correct that, but considering that the 1.4 patch will negate all these changes I'll just save that until the patch is released and release a whole new 1.4 compatible set of music files.

As for your question on if you can alter volume in the .csv; yes you can, it is the third option within the .csv, however in my experience this sometimes works or doesn't, it may be related to more Hex editing in the sound_events file dump, but I am unsure. As it is, you can change the volume of music from the options menu, but I assume you want lower campaign music and higher battle music? If so, you can try experimenting, with just changing the volume within the .csv and see if that works; if not that means that the volume is being referred to elsewhere and conflicting with the .csv.

Actually its the campaign music that's too quiet... loud enough you can just about hear it but to quiet to make out properly.
So if i edit the numbers in various places in the .csv (loop point bit and campaign european volume bit) it may or may not make a difference?

Just follow the key at the top of the .csv file to see which one is the volume numbers (hint: it's the third one) and change that number to your wish and then see if it works in-game. For some it is just that easy, other sounds have other references to that number (like loop points) that conflict with the change and keep it from being modified by one change alone. The only way to find out is experiment.

Sorry to necro an old thread, but I was wondering if someone has an updated version of this mod? I made a music pack for my personal use but those loops during a battle are really annoying.

I'm trying to understand all of this myself.

So, this process and mod file solved the issue back in 09, before the 1.4 patch, and now it doesn't work?

I have already been making a music mod without knowing all this and stumbled upon the battle issue. But the craziest thing happened -- I got custom music to play in a battle last night without doing anything different from what I'm doing with the campaign files (just editing mp3's with Audacity, mostly for length and volume, and then swapping them in for the vanilla tracks). It was a naval battle, but the music cues work the same as land battles. From what I read this was impossible, but there it was, loud and clear.

Instead of looping endlessly on the same song, after a brief disengagement, upon reengaging with the enemy the custom song began to play.
