    Default Ethnicity of generals

At one point, my Balkan settlements (which were conquerded by goths, few turns earlier) rebelled against their oppressors and joind me, i autoresolved batlle and I got :man of the hour" general which was I think Syrian - roman.... that confused me... shouldnt he be err... Ilyrian roman? or Thraco roman?

Is there some "patern" for this or it is random.... representing mix in the empire?

This will happen unfortunately. The ethnic traits system is built around owning particular cities from which you can get different traits. For example to get am Italia Roman trait you need to be in possession of Ravenna and Rome, for an Egyptian Roman trait you need to be in possesion of Alexandria etc etc, but this wont stop the BI engine from giving you a new character who is Gallo Roman in Antioch, but it will usually ensure that if you are a Gallo Roman then there is a greater chance of being Pagan than Christian for example and so on.

Hope this clarifies things a bit for you.
