    Vegetation textures from M2TW usable for RTW?

    In RTW/BI we have tga.dds files for textures.
    Today I checked the M2TW files and they have another ending (.texture)

    I want take some vegetation "things" and implement them in my mod aod2. That means grasses and trees.

    So, 3 questions:

    1. Is it possible to tranfer those M2TW (vanilla) textures to RTW/BI

    2. If it's possible, how can I open those .texture - files from M2? Is there a plug-in for GIMP?

    3. ...and what about the models of the normal grass? Is it necessary to import also the grass-models (perhaps the M2 grass-textures are matching the models from RTW

    I know Dxtbmp can import .texture files and can export as .dds so try that.
    Try the downloads section here to get it.

    Ok, tool is loaded. Good to know that this tool can save the files as .dds
    Thanx fireward!

    Now it's the big question if RTW accept the M2-textures concerning grass. I think a can "try" my luck later when I sit on my own computer.
    But if somebody has experiences with that item feel free to post it.

    I think RTW accept ME grass if is it in proper format in this case Grass in CAS and texture in .dds

    M2 is also working with normal cas files, isn't it?

    dont know but I can easy convert any mesh file to cas and texture to dds for you

    the models in M2 have names like "vege" (which means probably vegetation, but that's not important)
    The models in RTW are names with "vege_models".

    It is indeed a good question if the normal RTW engine can also work with the "vege" format. In this case you can simply add it into battlefield vegetation and check what happens.

    If you succeed in this I hope you will share with all the community. The vegetation from M2TW is far better than RTW one.

    I understand PM's ideas,we have been 'bitten' by the 'Prometheus' bug...It would be cool to explore ways to 'beautify' the battle map more,a bonus also for screenshots! So good luck with this and hopefully also with digging up the Prometheus grass again. Someone else has done vegetation textures here,but I can't recall where?

    in rs2 they have new vegetation
    + Hospitallers, Teutonics and Templars Mod Coming Very Soon on ETW yes on ETW +

    yes, but the question here was: is it possible to take the M2TW-vegetation textures for RTW?

    The Medieval2 textures look phantastic, in my opinion it is not necessary to make new ones from scratch.

    for the strat-map yes - without any trouble.
    But I don't tried any other item.
    However, I'm pretty sure it's possible IF somebody can convert the grafic/model format.

    I'm pretty sure there is a problem. Something like a plug-in for any 3D program. However, I'm no 3D specialist. This item should be checked by someone with certain knowlegde.
    As said, several M2 textures are also useable for Rome. In this case I think it is also possible for the grass and some trees.

    Ive been looking in to this a bit after reading your thread..

    Like most people Ive been able to use M2 campaign map textures.

    Ive found a converter tool which will convert textures to dss files (In truth this wasnt hard to find on the M2TW mod workshop pages)

    However looking at the M2TW textures they are very different to RTW

    The battle map textures in M2TW are done in two parts a macro and a micro texture, the macro texture is like a rough coat of paint and the micro fills in the fine detail close to the camera viewpoint. In contrast RTW just has one texture, when I tried to use the M2TW textures they tiled quite badly and didnt look good.

    As for the grass the textures are also different

    So its certainly not possible to use as they are, however I think that they could be used to make more RTW texture. Even then there are problems if you look at the vanilla grass its virtually white this allows it to blend with the ground texture. The M2Tw textures and for that matter Proms dont do this.

    I'm currently playing with modding the Rtw ground textures, and will have a go and making some different grass textures (have a read of this about grass textures http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60472)
    Ive not got around to looking at the trees and such, but it wouldnt surprise me if that worked a bit differently too.

    If your serious about this I would suggest having a look in the M2TW mod workshop, see if anyone has modded the vegetation and ask how or search of a tut then compare how its modded in RTW you might find there are similarities. From what Ive seen some elements of M2TW could be brought into RTW but even that will take some work I dont think there is a quick fix.

    it's (perhaps) not required to change the textures if you are able to use (or to convert) the new grass models called 'vege' instead of 'vege_models'. See the post of Aetius above.
    And this is what we have to do. Find a way to use those models. The textures can be "adjusted" if necessary by one of my texture-specialists.

    I think the grass in M2TW are just texture files which I posted earlier. I think that you can make new grass textures in the RTW format from these though. As for the VEGE files RTW also has VEGE files and I suspect that these are just for trees and shrubs etc.
