Icon7 Tell Us YOUR FAVOURITE Quotes

Well, I understand this may very well be off topic but I thought it may be worthwhile for everyone to learn a little bit of knowledge of wisdom or what not from eachother.

So Please leave a Quote of one or many of your Favourite Authors/Writers and simply explain the deep meaning behind the secrets of worlds of the ancient... You can leave multiple quotes as long as you explain them...

Feel Free ! As long as the Quote is by someone ancient and/or famous. The Quote must not be from sayings/movies/music lyrics/entertainment and so on....

I would start off, I have 3 quotes from my favourite author of Ancient strategy books... Sun Tzu, King of Strategy and Wisdom of Warfare.

1st qt “All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.” Sun Tzu - The Art Of War

this quote basically explains how war is not what one can see on a battle field... fighting... Killing, but war is actually what goes on behind such "deceptions". It can be that when I am attacked by you..... I have already bribed your bodyguard to assassinate you... Such things are part of the term "Deception"

2nd qt "In War, there are 5 major factors towards the fate of your battles and campaigns. Moral, Purpose, Time, Geography(Strategy), and most importantly - Fate(Luck). For Moral is what makes an army aggressive, Purpose is what makes your character worth fighting for, Time is what you may use of your tactics, Geography is where you can figure the way you will win, and Lastly, Fate is the Soul your men breath at the midst of battle." Sun Tzu - The Art Of War

this quote shows the 5 keys of winning a battle, furthermore, Sun Tzu also states that winning a battle does not mean winning the "War". An example of that is Although Hannibal defeated many Romans in Italy, he did not win the "War" at the end for he lost the 2 most important keys of winning, Purpose, and Fate.

3rd qt "Invincibility lies in the defence; the possibility of victory in the Attack. The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable. For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill. The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories. " Sun Tzu - The Art Of War

this quote states the most complicated meanings... It basically means to be "Invincible" in defence, which refers to as hiding/ambushing when expecting enemies, (instead of confronting) and Attacking to be decisive and brutal/deadly, (winning victory requires more than one battle) therefore if one could achieve victory with less attack is the one who is brilliant. Next sentence, Sun Tzu states that do not take chances of possiblities in war, instead make opportunities imposing support, not against you and supportive of your opponent. Basically he tells us not to wait for the enemy to make a movie, "Expect" the move coming, instead of actually "seeing" it coming. In addition, he states that not only understanding tactics makes a general well, it is the understanding of elements, environment, geography, and most importantly - your enemy's mind. For he states if the enemy to fight are strong and fearless but their commander is incompetent, they have lost already.

This is my Favorite part of all three Quotes "Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories." Sun Tzu - The Art Of War

Enjoy guys and Plz add more to this, I want to see how much different quotes from the world people can put in here !!!

Try to quote in English plz

I think that actually the explanation is pretty hard in some. I have one of my favorite quotes by Nietzsche, however I doubt myself in the ability to correctly translate or even explain it. Its one of those quotes you like but you do not understand ( which I have alot obviously). Art of War has some nice ones, as has the Bible or even the original RTW Game - like - Fortis cedere, cedere non potest. - A brave man may fall, but he cannot yield.
Which I like. That sort of quotes. But explainin them is just a matter of interpretation

"Even if we were to be enslaved in the galaxy's cycle of rebirth, the feelings that were left behind will open the door! Even if the infinite Universe were to go against us, Our burning blood will cut through fate! We'll break through the heavens and dimensions! I'll show you my path through force! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?!"
