Can anyone help me (Technical problems)

I just wanted to say that I installed MTW2 and have been trying to play the game, but at every battle (at differnt times almost always before or after the battle starts and i get back to the campaign map) the game shuts down and says: " MTW2 has encountered an unspecified error and will now shut down"

Anyways was just wondering if anyone here has seen this problem and what the possible remedy might be.

Also I forgot to say im using 1.2 version...im currently downloading the 1.3 patch

downloading the 1.3 patch may help you.. but M2TW has been patched to 1.5...

No, and no once again. The 1.3 patch does not carry any major fixes, only little bugfixes and adapts M2TW to the Kingdoms installation.
And M2TW cannot be patched to 1.5, as it is a patch solely for Kingdoms. The latest M2TW patch is 1.3.

Xomiak sorry i havent had m2tw without kingdoms since the day kingdoms came out so Ive been unaware that the patch didnt convert for both games.. My apologies.

It's okay. I was shocked too when I first noticed that these patches are completely irrelevant to each other.

@Darkpreist: No I dont have any mods up and running yet but I was hoping to use Broken Crescent and Darthmod, but im afraid that they will have to wait becasue of this problem.

Its just the wierdest thing, becasue it usually happens once I get to the battle map loading screen, and right when its done its shuts down...but it happens at the exit screen (campaign map loading screen) also....so its kinda getting annoying to say the least. Hmmm... so 1.3 wont do anything for me huh, well then does anyone know if they made some kind of bugfix list or somehting?

Also if anyone wants to know what kinda of video card im running...Im running bootcamp on my mac...so i got an ati card. But whats weird is that I had installed MTW2 before and it worked fine so it shouldnt be a problem with the graphics card.

Patching won't hurt, but it is rarely the problem.

Here's what I suggest: Go here, http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
Afterwards, pick Medieval II Total War - PC from the list and check if you can run it (You need to install something, it will take like 10 minutes, if it doesn't work after the install, turn off your browser and try again, it will work that time), if your hardware requirements are up to speed (Minimum or better), than that front is cleared, what you need to do is update your Sound and Video drives to their latest versions, that caused me several crashes and problems in other games and updating them really helped.

If the above does not apply, and you do NOT have the minimal requirements, get the minimal requirements and the problem should be fixed.

In the event neither of the above help, you need to check whether you have enough space in your hard drive or not, the System Drive. Having insufficient space there can cause performance issues and unexpected crashes, most games cannot even identify that's the problem, so even though it is not hard to find, it is very easy to miss.

After all of that, and if ALL of that did not work, reinstall the entire thing.

If even all THAT didn't work, get a specialist, call tech-support or simply upgrade your computer as you see fit (This is EXTREMELY unlikely to be needed, meaning that the ones before it should work)

This simply means you have a bad file or a file that you did not install properly, this is the reason why you cannot play battles.

This probably means you unpacked the game incorrectly or some minor error, that rolled into a big error, occurred through installation.

I would normally NOT suggest this, but I suggest you reinstall, I believe it will solve the issue.

Are you absolutely sure you have no legacy files from an earlier unpack in any of the mods or tools folders? Also I think editing that one file to give yourself all factions might prevent the 1.3 patch from installing correctly. Do you have a backup of the original to revert too?

EDIT: Also read down a few more posts someone mentioned he had problems with an ATI card and needed different drivers. Maybe this is the culprit.

I highly doubt this is the problem, as it doesn't seem to be related at all, but it could just be. I suggest you try what PoleCat said before trying what I said, if what PoleCat said didn't work, do what I suggested. If none of the above work, I will point and laugh.

Just kidding, I would suggest reinstalling Med2 - Kingdoms - Kingdoms 1.5 patch
Kingdoms comes with the Med2 patches

YA I tried to update my video card and sound card but so far nothing. And I can swear that the only thing I touched was the folder...Hmmm Well Im gonna try running more tests and then appy 1.3 patch and see what happens.

The ToS does not allow us to submit links/upload files of such sort onto TWC .

If you wish to proceed with that kind of course of action, you will have to do this outside of TWC.

My best advice - Reinstall. You need a fresh Descr_Strat file, and that's the way to get it.

Yeah I have to agree with NZ here. Since you've already changed the file and have no backup it looks like a fresh install might be the only option. Just make sure you delete the leftovers and scrub the reg before reinstalling.

Reinstall the game. Don't be asking for unmodded files. It can get you banned.

Rule #1 in modding: No backup = complete reinstall.

Ahh Bummer, I hate to reinstall the whole thing...Ok so heres and update. I jsut played a battle and it went alright, finished it up and the game didnt crash on me. So Im starting to think it might be certain races that I fight and how big the number of troops there are. (I fought venice and it crashed but when i fought hre it didnt)

Sorry about the banning/ asking for that file everyone. I didnt realize that a small file like that would get you banned or anything, but what I ment to say is that if theres was any way to get it without having to reinstall I would love to know, but of course if its pirating it then no thank I guess
