Really irritating: My Men have no legs and are midgets and look terrible.

Okay, so my friends introduced me to this mod and I successfully downloaded it and installed it and all that. This mod is absolutely amazing I'm actually pretty addicted to it, the campaign map and battles and everything works perfectly. EXCEPT, every single new unit added to this game shows up with no legs, and look like they are inside out in a way its really annoying, (ex: spartans, the royal greek whatchmacallits, etc) because when I look at how the units look like at my friends house they look beautiful. And I want that, I have rome total war gold through STEAM

, and I also have windows VISTA

. SO I was wondering if anybody could help me fix this. I have a decent laptop and I have all the graphics and everything set to highest so I don't know whats wrong. I installed it to my rome: total war gold folder in the steamapps/common thing. SO I don't know whats wrong because the game works perfectly its just the units, and also at my friends they have the whole new menu thing. and I just have the original rome total war menu thing, but the loading is different. Please HELP ME I'm reinstalling for the THIRD TIME, and its really annoying to do it with steam because I always have to re-download it.

I can't I deleted everything and I don't want to reinstall it again until I know how to fix it. I know its hard to picture but basically the only thing the units have are their shield, a spear and their torso.

huh, did you have any other mods installed when you were playing RS, because i had one installed, but unisnstalled it and there were some features from it that were in RS

Not really familiar with Steam but I hope when you deleted everything you cleaned out the registry etc.

Okay, sooo behold are two pictures of my units. The first picture is a view of them turning sideways and the second picture is a view of them frontwards. They are constantly switching to those poses every milisecond. Notice their lack of everything but a torso and a spear/shield. I tried your settings Arnspac word for word. But unfortunately I got the same result

IT is so annoying because everytime I reinstall I have to redownload the game because its off steam. I've reinstalled 5 times now. Is there something in the unit files that I can fiddle around with?

Can you make a copy of the install on your computer? Do you have the space or does Steam prevent that?
Another suggestion would be to go into the preferences file and turn off the 'Green Arrow' markers, which could clear up the image a little.

DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:FALSE to
DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE

I'll check with tone or Sqυιd as well.

Click unit shaders, should take care of the pointy legs at least.

Unit Shader was on it is absolutely not about the unit shaders. I've tried every single video setting possible. I'll try the arrow markers thing. And arnspac what do you mean by making a copy of the install? A copy of my RTW install or a copy of the RS install?

Make a copy (or two ) of your RTW install and then if you have issues it saves a lot of headaches.

Too make two copies just right click on your game in the games tab and go on properties, go on local files and backup game data, choose rtw and itll create a second copy.

Although you might know that or dont need to know it?

Or you could stay on properties and try and defragment it, it usually restores the game to its former glory... (worked with crysis)

Every other time this has come up it has been unit shaders being turned off. Make sure you save the setting, make sure that the setting actually saves to your preferences file. A search would have told you this.

Okay also just now I have made a discovery, if I stay back a bit at a certain camera angle I can see the troops as they are supposed to look. But it is really annoying and you can't actually fight a battle succesffully at that angle. So as soon as I go any closer than that particular angle they go back to what I've shown in the pictures I posted. So if that gives anyone any idea as to the problem let me know asap please, and squid I made sure the unit shaders were on in preferences so that is for sure not the issue.

The only other thing I could think of, other than unit shaders, would be a corrupt install of RTW. Try letting RTW 'autodetect' your video settings in options, and see if that fixes it. If not, try setting the unit detail as high as it will go. The highest setting actually DISABLES the sprites, and all you see is the model itself with texture. If it's STILL screwed up, and unit shaders are enabled, then your install is toast.

Interesting....how would you know that? RS1.5 OVER-WRITES the original RTW and you shouldn't even be able to see any of the 'original units'. What exactly aren't your telling us?

Wait what? Are you saying that every single unit in this mod are modded and there aren't any existant regular RTW units? Because there are some units that that look fine, which I assumed were the units that are the original from RTW that you guys didn't alter but were still in the mod. Which leaves me very confused because if your saying that you didn't leave any original RTW characters in, why would there be some units that look perfectly fine and other units that have no legs and arms and just have spears and a shield?

There might be one or two unit models that were the original Vanilla units, but NO textures. All the other units were replaced. Which does indeed create a mystery, because I have no idea why some would look fine, and others not. My conclusion, were I faced with a similiar situation, would be to blow that install away and re-install. Something is wrong with IT, not the units.
