Using DLC models on vanilla units

Does anyone know why we can't use any of the new models on other units in the game.
At the moment I am using the wild geese model for minutemen just by changing the model in unit stats land table and it works fine.But I want to use one of the new DLC models but whenever I change the minutemen model to the one I want the game crashes.
Are these models faction specific or locked to one faction maybe?
I can't find them in models.pack,textures either.

They're locked.
