About 12 hours ago Alice in chains released it's first track since, what, 1996, as a sample of their upcoming album "Black Gives way to Blue."

The song: "A looking in view"

I approve.

Staley is irreplaceable but Duvall does the AiC name justice.

I think the album comes out in September.

no, and no one will ever be able to replace him. But that being said, I enjoyed it. It has a heavier sound to it, which I like.

I was a little worried it would just end up a bit like another Cantrell solo album, but listening to it you really can tell the difference.

I love it. It's different without Layne, but I love it regardless. Can't wait to hear what else they come up with

Also note: there's a download link on their homepage (aliceinchains.com). You enter your e-mail and they send it to you. God knows why, but they probably didn't want to limit just how many downloads/bandwidth usage?

This is good, Duvall is nowhere near Staley but he's cool as does the band justice

I've heard the sentiment echoed that it doesn't, well, sound like alice in chains's stuff...I tend to agree...

I mean...it's a song about Jerry Cantrell moving to California, and thinking it's an alright place, despite the fact he's surrounded by drugs and not doing them, so he thinks someone should "check his brain".

Here is apparently the whole Album 'Black Gives Way to Blue' thanks to the radio-station I listen to, not for download but you can listen to it through the site. But you'll probably have to sit through a stupid advertisement or two and deal with some other annoyances.

I'm not sure how widespread this sort of release is though so if you know of a better place for it by all means post it.

I think it was leaked...I found the songs posted about a week ago, but the album is released this tuesday AFAIK.

I'll post the songs via whatever video links I come across after that point (not the actual songs as files themselves, mind you).
