Do you keep your king in the capital? If he stays away long from his throne, he does not have as high authority.

You can become a tyrant of a king and throw those who question your authority in the dungeon (lasts a turn or 2, I think) or you could kill off your king and hope his heir is more to the nobles' liking. Some kings are just hard to like and I am glad to see this game reflect that.

Be sure that your "king" will gain that trait if he has got eight ancillaries and have not been crowned yet. If this is the case, as I presume, bring another general to where your king is at and give him one of his ancillaries. Then, the next turn, your King will be crowned.

    Happened to me as well.

Good point Elvallie, I just assumed that his king was crowned. An uncrowned king would definitely do it. Always check those ancillaries.

The "Offends the nobility" trait can be avoided. The above posts about the ancillaries and crowning of your new king is part of the solution to keeping your king from gaining the trait. The trait is also a function of your kings "authority". You want high authority.

Something I do is get my heir's in at least 3 battles (he has to lead them) before he becomes king. That way he is a "seasoned commander". Even if they are career governors. Sieges on rebel forts and those pesky tiny/small stacks of rebels that pop up are great for this.

    Untested Commander (0 battles) = -2 authority
    Inexperienced Commander (1-2 battles) = -1 authority
Seasoned Commander (3-5 battles) = 0 authority modifier

Additionally there are some banners from settlements that grant authority bonuses as well as those legendary swords. I also am a big time user of spies/assassins. Shortly after ascending the throne (depends how many agents you have and how often you use them) your new leader will gain "Master of Espionage" and "Master of Assassins" both give +2 authority.

You also want to avoid using your leader as the commander of your armies. Delegate that to a family member or general. That way your leader can sit his but on the throne and gain the +1 authority bonus. Additionally faction leaders and heirs cannot gain "military rank" i.e. knight, knight commander etc. That is the other reason to delegate the commanding of armies.

    I hope this helps.

You can also collect enemy crowns (basically crush entire enemy faction to be sure, since AI characters can get crowned outside of capital and control their starting capital). They will add a LOT of authority to you. Or you can use assassin and spies to get open to a a murder or perfect politician traits(or something similar). Also some titles add authority , I think King of Jerusalem adds you one Authority point and lowers loyalty by 4 so your king should always keep that tilte to himself.

There are some quite perplexing restrictions when it comes to what crowns you can wear (I mentioned this before) but if you want to change it to more logical restrictions just edit export_descr_ancillaries.txt in your DLV data folder
and for example to change Egypt crown restrictions just delete bold red lines or change them to something else (for example you can deny Egypt crown to Eastern Europeans if you want):

    Type royal_regalia
