    Default Changing Faces

I have no experience in modding, but how complex would it be for one to take the face of an existing unit in ETW and replace another already existing unit's face with that face? I tried looking at the making custom unuts guide and downloading the pack file manager but I wasnt able to open up the texture of any of the units. Supposing its not to complex how would one do it and would it have any effects on multiplayer battles?

    -thanks

It's easy. I do it all the time. Just open the texture you want to borrow the face from in GIMP or Photoshop and copy it. Paste it as a new layer in the texture you want to apply it to. Line the layers up (making the top layer translucent helps here), flatten them and viola, you're done. Shouldn't have any effect on multiplayer as your system won't know the difference between an edited and unedited skin.

I opened the models pack with pack file manager and I found the texture of a unit so I extracted the texture and tried to open it (I downloaded GIMP because I do not have photoshop). When I tried to open the file with GIMP I got an error message saying unknown file type from GIMP. The texture file I extracted is called euro_marines_united_states_diffuse and its a DDS file.

You need the Gimp dds Plugin my friend, you can find it here:http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/

Ok so I hav eopened up the textures of the two units I wanted to change faces with and I have copied the faces I want and am trying to line them up with the prexisting faces. Im having some trouble though how do I make the top layer translucent when I paste the faces to the unit I want to change and how do you flatten the layers?

In the toolbox, click on the layers tab and you'll see the opacity slider.
