Stormwind
Peasants
Most of the population of the human kingdom’s is made of simple townsfolk, peasants, farmers or craftsmen. In times of war, when the need is urgent and there is no time or money for proper training, they are recruited into the army and forced to war with their daily lives tools, and if lucky, some leather armor.
SI7 Rogues
The SI7 (Stormind Intelligence) is a branch of the Stormwind Army that specializes in tracking, assassination and espionage. In battle, they move stealthily through the battlefield, striking at unprotected or important units such as archers or generals. They must avoid open battle with more heavily armed enemies however, because they lack the defense necessary for long engagements. Outside the battlefield, SI7 agents are the shadows that move throughout the countryside, killing key enemy agents and providing Stormwind with valuable Intelligence.
Stormwind Paladins
Paladins. The name strikes fear into the hearts of every user of necromancy. The elite of the knights of Lordaeron eventually are trained and raised as paladins. Imbued with the holy power of the Light and wielding powerful swords and light-enhanced shields, they charge into the enemy lines spreading chaos with their light-blessed weapons, blinding and smiting the unholy enemies of humanity. They are a newly formed organization within the Stormwind Army, the remnants of the Order of the Horse of the First War, together with the few Priests who escaped the destruction of Northshire, have merged together to create the ultimate weapon against darkness. Paladins of Stormwind.
Dismounted Stormwind Paladins
When dismounted, they are still a force to be reckoned with, as few enemies stand in the way of their holy swords.
Priests of the Holy Light
The most devout and pious of mankind, even more than paladins, priests of the Holy Light serve as supporting spellcasters, healing friends and smiting foes, they are not as skilled as proper battle mages when in a battlefield, but can still make a difference when properly used, especially against the Undead. They do not like to fight however, and prefer to meditate and pray, so when the enemy approaches they will likely retreat from the battlefield. They are few tough, because not many Priests survived the First War after Northshire was overrun.
Night Watch Militia
In Darkshire (former Grand Hamlet) a militia has been recently created to counter the growing undead threat. There are rumors that from Deadwind pass an even greater threat is coming. And with Stormwind having been rebuilt not so long ago, It’s armies do not have yet full capacity to counter every problem the Kingdom faces. So is born the Night Watch Militia, made of local citizens and farmers trained and armed by the local smiths and veterans. Despite not being a professional force, they are still far more superior that regular militias.
The Peoples Militia
At Westfall a similar situation to Darkshire is rising. The Defias Brotherhood, made of the Stonemasons and Carpenters that came to rebuild Stormwind, were cast into Elwynn Forest after their claims for payment were turned down by the House of Nobles. So they became bandits, claiming their pay little by little to the unprotected travellers and tax collectors. In Westfall however, is where their presence is the strongest, and with the Royal Stormwind Army not yet fully assembled, the people in Westfall are left to fend themselves against the rising threat of the Defias.
Pikemen
Some soldiers who are levied into the army are trained and used in tightly packed formations of units using pikes. These very long shafted weapons are used to deflect enemy cavalry charges, and when necessary, they are the best weapons to deal with large sized enemies such as golems or the stupid and bloodthirsty ogres. It’s best after all, to be able to pierce the enemy while being far away enough not to get blown away by their big clubs.
Stormwind Guards
Patrolling the recently built city of Stormwind, the Stormwind Guards are the main force of the professional armies. Made largely by both veterans of the Second and First wars, they stand ready to defend the Kingdom against every threat, be it human or non-human. Having witnessed first hand the horrors of past wars, they will not waver so quickly as regular soldiers would against more powerful foes. The Stormwind Royal Army is a small but very professional force that will stand ready against any who would defy the Golden Lion of Stormwind.
Stormwind Knights
The professional mounted force of Stormwind, they are both nobles and commoneers, who, by rising in the army ranks, are eventually taken as squires by knights, and then, rise as knights of Stormwind themselves . Unlike their Northern cousins, most of them aren’t arrogant and selfish, interested more in protecting their people than personal glory. Many are survivors of the Order of the Horse of the former Kingdom of Azeroth, and as such, are very experienced in mounted combat. They are some of the most powerful warriors of the newly formed Kingdom of Stormwind.
Stormwind Archers
Trained in marksmanship since children, they are as skilled in ranged combat as knights are in mounted combat. They are the professional ranged troops of the Royal Stormwind Army. They aren’t as skilled in close combat, and will need protection from other soldiers, like the Stormwind Guards, to avoid being overrun by sword wielding enemies.
Stormwind Crossbowmen
In the First War, the crossbow was the main weapon of Azeroth’s ranged soldiers. They were deadly enough, but eventually the Horde’s spearmen were too numberous for them to handle. Now tough, their numbers are being bolstered by citizens and commoneers volunteering for the army, who are quickly trained in wielding the crossbow. While delivering a bigger punch than Stormwind Archers, they are slower at reloading, and are as vulnerable in close combat as their bow wielding brethren.
Archer Militia
Peasants and hunters recruited into the army to serve as basic ranged troops, they will not be good for much except to defend settlements, preferably behind the safety of their own walls. While most of them practiced with bow for their entire lives, they still lack the discipline or combat training of professional armies, so their aim and draw strength will be average at best. If forced into melee, the best thing they can do to fight the enemy is to draw them away from the battlefield.. while the archers run for their lives.
Stormwind Mages
The survivors of the initial order of the Conjurers, went with the rest of the Exodus to Lordaeron. There they fought alongside Lordaeron’s best mages, and their stay in Dalaran helped them to further enhance their skills. Now this battleworn mages seek to dwelve deeper into the Arcane, so when they need to protect Stormwind again, they will not fail against enemy Warlocks and Necrolytes.
Militia Cavalry
When the town bell rings and the enemy approaches, all man that can ride a horse are required to go to the nearest stable to be given a horse, then ride to battle. They are only good to charge enemy archers while their foot brethren hold the enemy long enough for the Stormind Army to arrive and finish off the enemy. If they ride to the middle of a battle, they will be easily slaughtered by spears and swords alike, for their lack of armor and skill makes them easy targets for professional warriors.
Stormwind Lancers
Professional troops of the Stormwind Army, these Lancers are often squires who accompany their Knights to battle. They are young and bent on glory, and so are prone to charge the enemy to prove their valor, hoping to be raised to be given the title of Knights quickly. This hot headed charge should not be underestimated by the enemy tough, because their lances will prove that even the most heavily armed of foes will be stunned by their powerful charge. Once the charge is done, they will not last long in prolonged battle, and will do best to retire and let their heavily armored Knights to join the fray.
Stormwind Seargents
Another branch of Stormwind’s professional forces, these volunteers and recruits use spears with maximum efficiency, well trained and armored as their sword wielding brethren, these are specialized anti cavalry troops, who will charge without fear any monsters who threaten the security of Lordaeron and will hold any charge the enemy throws at them. They are not as skilled in fighting in melee as Stormwind Guards tough, and will break ranks and flee if the battle does not go their way for a prolonged time.
Avengers of the Holy Light
The most powerful and devout of Paladins eventually join the order of the Avengers. Their devotion to the Holy Light goes near extreme fanaticism, and they will do anything to defend their faith and belief to death, not caring if the enemy is Sargeras himself in his true form. They are practically fearless in battle, for they believe that dying in battle for the Light is the strongest performance of faith, and the fallen of their order are held in high regard with statues and paintings in their Headquarters.
Mounted Seargents
Every rich peasant has at least one horse or two, and when the time comes to create armies and go to war, this commoneers will enlist in the army taking their loyal mounts with them. Despite rich enough to own horses, they are still common folk, and will only have the money to afford average armor. They are good to charge, and few else. They are not knights, and as such they can’t fight very well in the middle of a battlefield, and will mostly be used to charge archers or to pursue fleeing enemies.
