    Default Problems with installation

    Hey all,

First of all, sorry for posting this thread here, but the forum of the fourth age is down atm.

After downloading the tns .exe file I got a whole bunchload of errors.
    First of all:

    3. When the files are extracted you will exit the installer and a dos window will run for approx 10 minutes. Leave this to run and it will disappear when its work is done.
That dos window did pop up, but errors occured. I don't have the exact names of those errors anymore, but bottomline is that my pc didn't recognise x... as an internal or external batch thing or something like that.

Ok, so I moved on to the .rar file.
    I followed the instructions below:

RAR Version of The New Shadow 2.0b

For those whose PCs have issues with the installer software or batch files (often exhibited by a DOS screen appearing and no game bootup after installation), a RAR file has been created:

    Installation Instructions...

    1. If you do not already have one, prepare a clean (i.e. unmodded) copy of 'R:TW - Barbarian Invasion' 1.6 on your PC. The 1.6 BI patch can be found at Sega's site (it is good practise to always keep the default installation clean so that you can use it to make clean copies, source vanilla files, and receive new patches/expansions etc.). Note that not all copies of Gold Edition are patched to 1.6 (you can check by going to OPTIONS in the in-game menu and the version number will appear in the top right of the screen).
Ok, i suppose i have a clean copy (uninstalled the whole game to be sure) of my gold edition.
Before anyone comes up with the standard answer of: "Your games ins't patched to 1.6", I have checked it in the options screen and I do have 1.6 BI and 1.5 RTW.

    2. OPTIONAL: Once patched, we recommend you copy your entire game (i.e. everything in the "Rome - Total War" folder) to another folder unless you have set up a copy from the default installation already. For example:

    Original installation: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

Example copy location: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War Copy

You do not have to complete this step above but it is always wise to keep your original installation clean. We will assume you have not taken this step in the remaining instructions below but if you have then please use your folder name and not "\Rome - Total War". Note also that Gold may have a different folder to "Activision" (CreativeAssembly, SEGA etc.)
I did this to; the new path is now:
    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome_TotalWar_kopie

    3. Now go into C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi and create a folder called ci (or delete all of ci's contents if you are replacing Forth Eorlingas or Corsair Invasion).
Did this step too. I didn't play FE or CI, so i just created a map "ci".

    4. Copy (not drag/move/cut!) the *contents* (all sub-folders inside the bi folder; custom, data, preferences, replays, saves) of the bi folder into the new ci folder (not including the ci folder of course).
    All done.

    5. Remove all subfolders in the C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi\ci\data\world\maps\battle\custom folder.
    Same.

    6. Delete the "base" folder and thus its contents (found at C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi\ci\data\world\maps\).
    Also done.

    Now my maps look like:

    Screen BI map:

    Screen ci map:

    7. You can now run the RAR for the Mod (ensure that you have it pointed to your Rome directory - e.g. C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War). Some people prefer to extract it to a temp directory and then manually copy it across to their Rome directory folder.
And here the mess starts again.
First of all, my vista doesn't let me extract the .rar file in that destination.
So I extracted it to my desktop and moved it to "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome_TotalWar_kopie" after the extraction was completed.

    My first question:
When I extracted it to my desktop, it created the map: fatw_tns_2_0_basic_full_b
Does this map need to go in the destination I posted above? Or do I need to place the submaps there?
Cause if I proceed with this map, after completing step 8, it just runs RTW BI.

    Screen of above question:

    8. Right click on RomeTW-BI.exe, and choose ‘Send to’ and then ‘Desktop’. Right click on the shortcut you just created and choose ‘Properties’...

The target line should look something like this:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe"

Add the following so that it looks like this:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -nm -mod:bi\ci

Some icons have been included should you wish to use them.
Ok, so here I have another question.
-show_err -nm -mod:bi\ci --> In my file bi is BI. Should I change this command to -show_err -nm -mod:BI\ci instead? (and I tried it for the problem in step 7, but it gave the same result.

I realy hope that someone will be able to help me with this
And I also hope that the fourth age forums will be up again soon.

    Thanks for helping!

fatw_tns_2_0_basic_full_b is the shell folder. I think the RAR compresses and extracts by different rules according to how it is set up.

You need to go inside this folder to the "bi" one and then paste that folder over your BI folder.

And then patch up to the latest version (2.6).

    Thanks for the thorough feedback.

    Thanks! It helped

And about the thorough feedback; I know how irritating it is to solve problems when you don't have the information you need, so I always try to give a good breakdown of the actual problem.

It's the best I've seen - it so much easier to see where it's gone wrong when this is done
