    Default Demanding Tribute in an Allies War

    I posted this in the official Paradox forums a couple days ago and didn't get a response, so I'm hoping someone here can help me;

    I'm Naples around 1450 and Venice has been my ally from pretty much the start.

    The Byzantine's control most of Greece except Morea, Athens and a Venetian Janina(sp?). My allies Venice declared war on Athens which brought in the Byzantines as the had guaranteed Athens earlier in the game. So I sent my troops over and took over all the Byzantine lands except two provinces beside Thrace giving a warscore of 71% (The various allies; Morea and Athens etc had already accepted peace deals with Venice, who was in charge of the war on our side, and it was just us vs the Byz).

    So why is it when I sue for peace with the Byz and demand tribute they'll give me *nothing*, not even 25gold worth 1 point in the war score. Then Venice demands 370 ducats and for the Byz to give up their core on Janina to which the Byz accept instantly. That's in no way helpful to me, and it would make sense for Venice to take land of their enemies the Byzantines and give it to their allies when their allies have conquered the land.
    Why can I not get anything off them? venice didn't actually fight against the Byz troops, they just had a few naval skirmishes, I did all the rest. I understand that I'm not the leader of the war on our side but I can offer tribute to the Byz and they'll happily accept, why can I not demand it?

    Basically the venitians have a higher warscore than you do: basically they get the warscore you have, plus any points for won or lost battles, plus points for blockading the byzantines whether it's you or the venitians for doing it.

    Furthermore, because you've done most of the fighting, it's possible your war capacity is lower than the venitians in comparison to the byzantines, which is another thing in addition to warscore that the AI takes into account.

    The Venetians have lost alot of battles in the war though and I haven't lost any. Venice didn't have the tech level to blockade at this stage so the only blockades came from me occupying their provinces.

    This shows the state of the war just before I offered my peace deal;

    Even if Venice has a higher warscore than me, the Byz have 0 war capacity, and nearly 10 war exhaustion and have a warscore of -71% against me. I have 100 war capacity and 0 war exhaustion, they should accept a peace offer worth 1%, in any other war they'd accept a peace offer of much higher.

    Edit: I also have 23 prestige while Venice has only 5. Is it actually possible to demand tribute in an allies war?

    Who knows, really. It'd probably mean they have armies intact somewhere.

    Prestige has nothing to do with it.

    If everything is as it should be, lesser partners in war can demand or offer tribute.

    However from your screenshot it seems you aren't occupying all of the byzantine provinces. If venice is occupying the rest it's likely they have a 99% warscore.

    Actually, scratch that, if anyone other than yourself is occupying the rest, then Venice has a 99% warscore...

    The ss shows that they have no troops at all left. They only have 2 other provinces that are behind the war overview screen and they're currently being sieged by me. Venice has none of their provinces and I'm not even sure if they have won any battles, the Byz had Janina occupied when I landed so I had to free it first before attack their land.

    If this were any other war, with 71% warscore and the Byz having 0 war capacity and me having 100 they would have accepted some sort of peace deal. It's not really that relevant if Venice have a better score because the Byz should surely be accepting my demands?
