    Icon9 Freezing Problem

Alright, so I Downloaded SPQR, Installed it into the right folder, everything is fine, have version 1.5 on Rome Total War, do NOT have Barbarian Invasion installed, all good. So I click on the Rome Total War Icon to start it up. And I come to this picture of SPQR, a roman legionare fighting a Barbarian with an army in the distance. And the screen just freezes their with no sound. Any ideas what the problem is?

I don't know, but when I first started SPQR I had the same problem, I tried again after restarting my CPU and then it somehow worked.

Later I never had any troubles, so I suggest to just try again after restarting your CPU.

it could be a video problem - try right clicking on the desktop icon and choose properties

at the end of the target line type -nm, this disables the intro movie

so my line looks like D:\SPQR\RomeTW.exe -show_err -nm (ignore the -show_err bit)

    The target line says this: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe"
If I try to add -nm to the end of it i get an error message. (The "" in the target line are ACTUALLY THERE IN THE TARGET LINE.)

you need to add it at the end after a space so in your case it will look like "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -nm

I'm using XP, and checked my video card and operating systems, my video card isn't up to date enough to play SPQR. I'm getting a new video card next month, so that should solve the problem. Thanks.

hum are you sure? it could be just the video card drivers, you just have to update then. You need to go to the site of the video card and donwload the pacth related to your card. also if you have the cd of your video card, is good to instal the drivers from that cd first.

After that restart windows, and try the game.

Ah well I did not see in first place, but what happened to you is definitely an issue with the video related graphic card. Happened to me in some other games drivers help for good cards, otherwise get one much better

I like to offer the miracle-cure of adding -ne at the end of the shortcut commandline... you'ld be surprised how many problems playing it windowed solves!

It starts the game in windowed mode. I rarely ever get a CTD even after extended periods of nonstop gameplay. It also makes alt-tabbing foolproof, no loadtimes while tabbing in or out of the game. Just make sure to set the ingame resolution to the same as the desktop and you won't notice it is windowed, but for some reason performance goes up significantly. This command has solved several people with unexplainable crashes or nonworking games in the past.

    -ne is your friend
