    Default Recovering Legionary Eagles

First off, I just have to compliment the RS team for one of the best mods I've ever seen or played... you guys deserve some serious appreciation. CA/Activision would do well to learn from the lovely attention to detail and just overall snazziness that is RS.

Now to my question... I tried searching the forums for an answer to this, but I didn't find anything, so I apologize if this has already been addressed. I lost a heavily outnumbered battle against Carthage in Sicily, and that resulted in the Republican Legion II VE, or more specifically, the First Cohort losing it's Legionary Eagle (and of course a good dose of disgrace for my commander who managed to escape). Now, I got the message that they had taken the Eagle to Lilybaeum and that I should make every effort to retrieve it and so forth. It took about 2 years to get reinforcements to my disgraced Legate in Sicily, but finally the shiny new Legio II VE arrived and we took our revenge (ironically the second battle was almost exactly like the first in terms of the armies, mine consisting of about 3,500 men and the Carthaginian army with about 6,500 in 2 or 3 stacks).

Long story short, despite a close battle, we took our bloody revenge and beseiged the few remaining men in Lilybaeum... and the same round assaulted and took the city. Now, what the heck happened to my Eagle?! No mention was made of the Eagle being recovered and I'm wondering if I did something wrong? It seems to me if you get a penalty for losing the Eagle, you should get a reward for recovering it? I even went back, reloaded and fought the whole thing again just to see if it were a glitch, but no... no mention of the Eagle either after the battle or in the traits of the victorious general. So, what gives?

Do I have to track down the original commander who beat me to get the Eagle back or did I wait too long before taking Lilybaeum? I assumed since it said the Eagle was being taken to that settlement, taking the settlement would give me the reward for recovering the Eagle? Or do I just have to imagine the event and assume it all happened and they forgot to tell me?

First you must have Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus before you can recapture any Eagle standards!

Likely involving Blue Spaniards and nailing Gauls up on crosses... hah. This is starting to annoy me... I wanted that general to redeem himself and get that Eagle back! Now I'm hesitant to play way past this save point, only to find out I needed to do some silly thing and I could have gotten it back :\. I managed to find a few references to what happens if you capture an Eagle, you get the honorific of "of the Eagles", I guess, and several people have speculated that a general can redeem himself after losing a Legionary Eagle (this was in a thread about RTW:BI I think), but nothing conclusive. Hopefully in RSII there will be some kind of notice when you recover an Aquila, if there isn't one in RS 1.5 and something just went awry.

Oh how I miss watching HBO's Rome, good thing I have both seasons on DVD.

Okay, getting to the question. Simply just keep taking cities of the enemy who took the Eagle until you find it, and the general who recovers it will receive the trait 'Recovered Lost Roman Eagle' or something of that sort.

I bravely forged ahead, despite the missing Eagle, so it's almost time for the Second Punic War anyway... I guess I'll just have to sack every last Carthaginian city until I find the Eagle. Oh, darn! How I'd hoped for peace!

The only concern I have, I'm not positive, but I think the enemy commander was killed during the battle, despite winning. Even if the commander was killed, the notice about them taking the Eagle to Lilybaeum came after the battle, so if the commander died, it didn't impact the message. *Loads up RS to implement Operation Chickenhawk Down*

Even if the enemy commander died, if you lost the battle, you'll normally receive a notice afterward that the Eagle has been taken to such and such a settlement, and in order to get it back, you need to take the town or city to redeem yourself in Rome's eyes for losing it to begin with.

yes, the two men you send after the eagle must hate each other to start with, then become best of friends with each other and Julius Caesar!

Lol, yes and as soon as they find it they will discover Octavian of the Julii as a slave working for a band of Gauls... Sorry I just couldn't resist.

Playing as carthage every time i conquered an eagle it went to the nearest settlement, and the general got the trait "Conquered an eagle" So if you sacked the settlement, you may have to track down the general that were in command at the time. Or it could be so that the general needs to be stationed at the specific settlement the eagle went to.
