    Default eagles

do you get Eagle of Rome by defeating a army with a first cohort or by completly killing a unit of first cohorts. also what do eagles actually do? IM playing as gfermania and I have about 5 ( from teh messages I understand that they are all in one city too).

he means, if im not mistaken, how to get a legionary eagle. you know the legions with little eagles on the banner. i have no idea seeing as how i've never been patient enough to get to the marius reform.

I think if you kill an entire 1st cohort, you gain that Legion's eagle. Historically and in the game, each Legion was given one eagle which was the soul and heart of a Legion. It was a great honor and privilege to carry your Legions eagle into battle. If a Legion lost their eagle to the enemy, it was a great disgrace and dishonor and the Romans did everything to get it back. In the game, the Legionary eagle gives inspiration to nearby Roman troops and I guess if the Legion looses it, their morale goes down drastically. As far as what do you get when you capture one, I'm not to sure. This feature is in all RTW versions.

Perhaps, as any roman unit which possesses the Eagle gains a moral increase, any opposing unit who posesses a stolen one would induce the same moral change, only decreasing it that much for any nearby roman troops (or any roman unit the "thief" unit is engaged in)??

I too am finding this interesting after reading it...although I haven't played in a couple months, I just reinstalled and find it intriguing...

the thing is that even if I get a eagle, non of my units have one, just one of my cities.

It works like this: If you capture an eagle ( Kill everyone in a legionary/early legionary first cohort), the general who did this gets traits like "Eagle collector". Each eagle gives your general +1 command star, and a general can have the maximum of 3 eagle-earned stars. After you capture an eagle, the game informs you where it was taken. The roman faction whom you captured the eagle from tries to attack this settlement with maximum force. If the settlement is not captured, the eagle remains to be there to the end of time.

What happens when you take it back? Do you get a fresh unit of 1 cohort? Money? Or is it just the hounour?

I think by the way he explained it you can't "get it back"...it's not a physical possession once he captures it, it becomes a trait.

You'll get a warm, fuzzy feeling when you recapture your eagle.

I think the general that recaptures it gets a trait.

You have to kill the whole "first cohort unit" and the eagle is taken to a city.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

If the city that the eagle is taken to is captured by the romans then do the romans get the eagle back?

I believe you can recruit First cohorts from the last barracks after the marius reforms.

Build the best barrakcs possible in Rome. They cost more money and time (i think) but they raise morale of all nearby troops.

you have to make the barracks in Rome tho.

So the 1st cohort must be recruited from Rome then? What about the other starting roman provinces?

No. Rome only, unless you have mods which change that.

I think they can, if you have the highest tier... I have a strong feeling that I'm wrong, but I also am remembering training them in another city.

If you are the Romans, and lose it, the senate gets mad at you. You probably lose popularity and are fined if you don't get it back, and keep getting that mission issued.

If you are the Romans, and get it back: "Warm fuzzy feeling."

If you are someone else, and steal it: Trait for a star, warm fuzzy feeling.

If you are someone else, you steal it, and then the Romans get it back: Cold, scratchy feeling.
