    Default Game balance thoughts

Hello! I installed this mod not long ago, but eventually uninstalled it. I was playing with the Romans, managed to conquer all of southern Italy and most of Sicilia when I gave up, to the North the Celts were wiping me out with all their army stacks, their Choosen Swordsmen and Armored Spearmen were too powerfull for my Camillian or Soccii troops, I was about to loose Tarquinii which was well developed, because my attempt to break their siege with an Army from Rome was completely innefective.

Im thinking on reinstalling though, because I have to admit I havent had this much fun with Rome Total War for years, guess I'll try to remove the morale bonus option this time. Two things I want to ask though:

In that last game I played, the Gauls were ok, managed to conquer their settlements in northern Italy, it was the Celts that reconquered them... I sent a spy north of the Alps and noticed the Celts were everywhere! Do they start this strong or did they just expand? Could they be made less strong?

And another thing I noticed, I had a very successfull assassin in northern Italy I often killed enemy Generals, only to see them replaced on the next turn, how's this, does the script automatically spawn them in armies? Or do they have a huge family tree with Generals to spare?

If the campaigns are too hard, you can try either with lower difficulty or reinstalling without the AI bonuses. A VH\VH campaign with AI bonuses is, in my opinion, suicide. I think H\H with AI bonuses is the maximum possible.

Question one: yes, the Celts begin with a lot of settlements, to fill the void of power in those vast areas.
Question two: Do you mean Celt generals? If they have lots of settlements it's not strange if they have lots of generals. I don't think there is any scripting to create generals.

AI factions will often get fresh adoptions every turn, especially on VH.

Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

    Ok, thanks for the reply.

    1. You could just make those areas independant, so other civs can conquer them. I do agree the Celts should be present in France, Iberia, Britain and perhaps in southern Germany. Dont know for sure how many settlements they start with because I havent looked

    2. Ok just wanted to know if it was scripted, guess they have big families

I agree with Peregrinus, the Celtic Tribes are way too strong. I'll try and work on a quick patch to solve that issue.

This problem of Gauls recruiting stack after stack of elite units has been reported more than once. Is this caused by scripting or AI bonuses?

Its probably because they're so huge... Once they unit their spread out territories and get some decent infrastructure, they're a European giant = stack spam.

Well 1 silver chevron is quite hard to beat. I've had alot of problems fighting bigger armies, my solution: ranged units+cavalry. In BI they are stupid so only 1-3 units go forth per time if you shot them, and then you give the charge with the cavalry when they are near and cant get support from the main army. Allways keep in mind that attacks from the back and right side hurts more then front and left side.

While i've been enjoying it, it does seem they can very quickly churn out elite units and as Rome it seems a little overwhelming, on H/H that is.

Just for your interest, this mod is quite playable with VH/VH settings, all bonuses turned on. Just a step below frustratingly impossible, but still possible and challenging

I play on H/H all bonuses turned on. That is pretty hard, but still acceptable to play.
Try going Normal on campaign and hard on battles.

Well I think it depends on how each game goes, in my latest one both the Carthaginians and Independent Greeks choose to pound me to death, before that I had a legion going from south to north of Italy and back, conquered the south, and defeated the Carthaginian invasions, but my economy was ruined and had at least one city revolting, with no money to reinforce my elite legion, the carthaginians eventually unloaded two full army stacks and at the same time the Greeks invaded from the north, seems they had allready conquered at least one settlement from the gauls. They conquered Tarquinii then moved to Rome, my elite legion managed to repel that attack but then the Carthaginians attacked and took Capua. No way I could survive that with the economy in the negative. Next time I'll try to improve my main cities before i start building up the army, and maintain a little fleet to keep the carthaginians out.

    Hello everyone.

I installed TW: Diadochi for the first time a few days ago and was simply blown away. Slick presentation, slick music heh slick everything. It's hard to believe it's just a mod... I mean it can pass off as another expansion pack. Specially that campaign intro for the Roman's totally and I mean totally blew my mind away.

Everything's good and all, just found the strength of the Celts way stronger than they should be, within few years in my fist campaign with the Romans I received a message they had the most advanced faction in the known world. Dirty barbarians.

They can still be given lots of settlements but surely shouldn't be able to match the technological advancement of Greeks or Romans. Thoughts?

This problem of Celts starting and then getting even more powerful is known. We should really consider the idea to give them 3-4 less settlements.

And perhaps delay their strongest units, so they can only be built in their larger cities

Yes, but we should do both things. Just delaying their strongest units without taking regions from them will probably result in lower level stacks spam...and since lower level units unkeep cost is cheaper, we probably would have even more stacks.
