    Default Lag-but not a lag

Ok, here's the problem. When I first got M2TW Gold edition it lagged bad. I took it back because Rome Total War worked fine, even with both installed. I then went and got it again, and same thing. The guy at the store said I needed a new graphics card, so I got one that costed 120 dollars, so I'm guessin it's pretty nice. He told me which one to get for my computer and so on, so it's the right one. Well after installing it, the lag QUIT. Forever. Gone. Even with RTW installed. BUT, after a while, it started to come back, so I uninstalled RTW and made more disk space. It once again quit for a long time. Then came back. So I finally said screw it, so I uninstalled it, and reinstalled RTW. BUT the problem had spread there, even with the same amount of space when it was working correctly.

And the lag doesn't seem to be a lag...it's off and on. It will lag for a couple minutes and stop lagging for a couple minutes. But when I fastforward the game from 1.0 to 6.0, same performance, it doesn't get worse like a normal lag. But in between lags it works PERFECT. The lag is there for even the lowest possible quality and the same for the highest. Anyone know the problem?

P.S. The same problem is on both games.

It could be a program in the background that messes your game up.

    Try this little program here:
    http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

This can shut down background programs with a simple click, then minimize it.
And when you've stopped playing, reopen the program from tray, and click again,
then it restart every background program.

If it doesn't help much, try to defrag the hd.
Go inside "my computer" right click the harddrive that you want to defrag
then properties > tools > defrag now.

This doesn't remove anything, it's simply something that you have to do every month
if you want your computer to keep spinning.

What it does, is that it's moving things closer physically on your harddrive, not the way
Windows is connected to those things. You will probably not see your pictures in "my pictures"
ending up in c:\program files\*random name*, no.

Off and on could be a cooling problem.

I have the the same problem with Empire: Total War. At first I thought it was just really crappy programming as that game has countless bugs and was probably done in a hurry. My new theory is not enough RAM. It could be both. I am going to get a new 2Gig stick to replace my 1Gig on Saturday. I'll tell you if that fixes it.

Does that GameBooster really work? I wouldn't mind better performance. I'm a little cautious now after I got two vicious hitchhikers on my machine.

Gamebooster helps and it has no hitchhikers.

    Thanks. I'll try it out.

As usual, the shipping got delayed. I won't have the info until Tuesday.
