Quick question for everyone, what are your oppinions on the Roman Gladiator units
I used to think they were pretty pointless, then one I got from a mission was able to kill about 200 Brutti in one battle, They are small fast and very strong

I like gladiators. The many differant types of units makes RTW interesting!

Downing a massive amount of alcohol to drown out a computer problem? That's a new way to deal with squalor, rebellions, and the AI cheating - not one I am going to try, however.

I am surprised the great Darth Max hasn't found a use for them, then again figuring out how an otherwise lame unit can be very successful takes a bit of effort and thought. My favorite are the velites after a game as Brutii pre-reform vs Egypt 10k. I moved into the trees with a pre-martian army to flank, shot at the army, lured and killed the chariots in the forest and the open with triarii + archers + velite bait. Then I charged uphill against a line of pharoah's guard and being shot by 2-3 pharoah's bowmen and regular bowmen which were already getting flanked by my velites which chased and attacked them. I liked using them in my pre-martian army setups before my gaming computer blew up (HP design = bad). I usually tend to win against noobs in 10k when I take pre-martian reform armies.
Use them sparingly in low money and avoid direct engagements with them. Gladiators are a niche unit. In large money non-newb games with urban cohorts and praetorian cavalry I found that they are completely useless. They are easy kills if getting charged by good cavalry.
Pre-martian army? Were you saying that on purpose to see if anyone would catch it?
On topic, though, gladiators are one of those fun units to use when you're bored, but not when you're serious. I particularly like using the Mirmillo variation, they look wicked. But when you look at the big picture, gladiators are just one of the little details that makes Rome such a great game.

gladiators are useless to me, along with arcani.

cant read?
personally I thanked my lucky stars that the romans were attacking me with gladiator units instead of legionary cohorts. I view them as pointless, but they do add spice.
what i mean is if you download my mod you wont have these problems..
