    Default Re-install Problem

I had to uninstall RTW and the mods because I was having some problems, and intended to re-install. The uninstallation of RTW went a little crazy, and afterwards I just deleted everything in the Activision folder.

I have the CD in, but my computer thinks its got RTW on. So I choose the Uninstall command, and nothing happens.

Now, what do I do now that I screwed up?

You have to go into the registry and delete the entries there.

    1. Click on Start then go to Run.
    2. Type in regedit and click OK.
    3. Left-Click once on the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    4. Left-Click once on the plus sign next to a folder labeled Software.
    5. Left-Click once on the plus sign next to a folder labeled The Creative Assembly.
    6. You will see a folder labeled "Rome Total War".
    7. Right click once on this folder; a menu will appear.
    8. Select the delete option and left-click; this will remove the folder.

Hm, nice idea, and I tried it.

Except for in my EA folder the only thing there was my Maxis folder. And I checked to be 100% certain RTW wasn't by some freak accident in there. And no, its not.

    I think he meant "activision".
Just run "RegClean". It's by Microsoft so it won't damage anything else in the registry. And even with the slim chance that it does. It creates a backup that you can restore.

Sorry about that, I ment The Creative Assembly then Rome Total War. I was just renaming this from another post and forgot to change it. Yeah so it should be:

But PuR's idea will work perfectly fine and will clean some garbage out of there as well.

Two things, one, according to my comp, I don't have "RegClean"

And number two, I used RegEdit and deleted Activisioin and The Creative Assembly. However, the problem is still there. Should I possibly Error-Check or Defragment to try to clean out the drive, or no?

Deleted from regedit, still won't work.

Hm, I installed regclean with no problems, but it won't work via "Run". According to the site, it's not longer supported by Microsoft.

aside from registry cleansing, did you try downloading this nifty little program called " Windows install clean up " ?

I had the same problem re-installing, and I ran this after I cleaned the registry, deleted Rome - Total War from the list this program gave me, then everything was fine

I forgot where I got it, I remember reading a help post suggesting using this program, try CNET, or google it :T
