This is a unit roster reworking for the English.
Q&A
Q:Why?
A: The English roster (amongst others) was in bad need of an overhaul. In vanilla, it included 4 bill units, 3 longbowmen and no norman units at all. To me, this made an unhistoric representation of medieval England. Not to mention their city units were sadly lacking.
Q: Will this be included in any submods?
A: I cannot speak for anyone else, but it will be included in the next release of the 1100AD mod, scheduled for release in the next two months or so.
Q: I am confused about the files, how do I install?
A: This is an open mod and therefore not as easy to install. Directions will be included but one will need basic knowledge of the battlemodels database and EDU to make this work. However, keep in mind that the unit list is currently maxed out at 500 units, so one will have to make some deletions to accomidate these new units. For example, in my mod, I have removed English huscarls, two bill units, one longbowmen, etc. Plus, with an open mod, the player can pick and choose which units they want to use and make it compatible with any mod they choose.
Q:What are the new units?
A: See readme for more details. There may be one more unit yet to come, but that is not for certain.
Q:I see some Breton and Flemish units. Wouldn't it be unhistoric to see these recruited everywhere the English are?
A:They will only be available in northern France through specific buildings (not included in this release), similar to Welsh longbowmen and Spearmen in Wales.
Q: Some of these units could be generic, are they available to other factions?
A: Yes, the city units will be available to other NE factions and some of the Norman units will be available to Sicily and the Crusader States, but this is a particular English only roster mod.
Q: Doesn't this make England to powerful? Especially in the early stages?
A: In certain areas, yes. However, consider that the combination of Norman archery, infantry and cavalry was dominating multiple fronts in Europe at this time. The Norman units do not upgrade and are the equivalent to second level barracks units. Their real advantage is their mail armour, cavalry charge and morale. By the third tier barracks (Feudal knights), they are overpowered. The militia units have comparable stats to their peers. Their neighbours will still have to use their traditional advantages: France has more territory and especially castles to draw from and Scotland's pikes can neutralize the Norman cavalry.
