The ring would have corrupted the eagle and killed frodo and
taken the ring for itself.

Say nothing about flying Nazgul eating the eagel alive and having Frodo for desert. It does seem like a viable solution to those who haven't read the books or don't know about the lore though. Not to mention that we would have had 1 considerably shorter movie compared to the trilogy.

Another crazy thing is that Sauron never took the effort to completely shut down every entrance to Mount Doom. It is said he never suspected they wanted to destroy the ring. Such careless is pretty dumb, if not completely retarded. That wasn't very clever Sauron, was it?

it was his pride and arrogance that lead him to believe that none in middle earth would be able to resist such power (and with the exception of at most 4 hobbits he was pretty much right) and so would use the ring rather then destroy it and that such an attempt would lead to their quick deaths (which everyone at the counsel of Elrond pretty much agreed on before going to do it) and so believed there was neither reason nor resource's to have to shut off mordor, what with his allies to north south and east and minas morgrul and the black gate guarding the only known entrys to mordor.
