I think it's more clever to attack Other factions then to bother yourself with rebels.

The rebels, surprisingly, are rather docile and won't attack even if you leave only a unit of peasants in your settlement. It's better to try and attack France first, like Mind said. If you can somehow take Paris (their capital), which is possible, it's quite a winner. One trick is that if you hurry you might be able to ally with the HRE/etc. If you gift a faction about 100-200 gold every single turn, it keeps their opinion of you up, which will help until you've crushed France. You can also drop a few forts, since the AI hates walking near a fort, even if it only has a half-depleted unit of some peasants in it ^_^

You've probably noticed that the rebels don't stay in their settlement most of the time. Once you get 2 catapults you can just take their settlement instantly via assault. The rebels will now be on *your* territory, and it seems they tend to just stand around looking silly.

Basically, it sounds like you took too long to get over to where France is. Even with a 10,000 gold/turn bonus, I don't tend to see the AI having more than one full stack at a time. Especially since you said you went off killing rebels - I'm guessing you've given France 20+ turns to build up?

Looking at the start, it will take 10 turns to get London to where it can make a ship. You might as well go kill some rebels because those Norman Men-at-Arms are expensive (but awesome). A decent force would use a few of the N-MAA, quite a lot of the Frydmen from the upgraded tavern and some mounted sergeants (to kill knights). I'll probably try to hold Ryuen, it brings in like 1200 a turn, so it is quite worth while keeping some units there until you can get a ship - it's a nice beachead. Probably remove the norman cavalry and archers there, add a bunch of feudal sergeants and you should be able to hold the town in the unlikely case France attacks before you have a ship up.

I'll play it in a bit and let you know how it goes. However, if you have indeed given France a lot of build up time, it will be very annoying to push them back, since the AIs tend to be rather good once they have tons of stacks and outnumber you.
