Patches Causing Problems?
Hey guys! Really appreciate this subforum right now.
I borrowed M2TW from a friend, so that I could get some screenshots for an AAR. But, you know, I HAVE to play around with the game first...
His version is M2TW vanilla in a plastic case. I'm not sure how many different production runs there are.
So I assumed that this version was not patched and didn't check. But having played RTW I found that it was good to patch them even if they already had been patched upon release.
I got the M2TW 1.1 patch from gamershell.com. Strangely, the fixes it listed were the fixes that another site described for the 1.2 Patch. I thought it odd, but continued b/c I found this out after I installed 1.1.
I played it after installing 1.1. It went fine. Everything worked EXCEPT that there were no speeches b4 the battle.
So I got all the patches and installed 'em. 1.1 from gamershell.com, 1.2 from strategyinformer.com, and 1.3 from strategyinformer.com.
Then, when I opened M2 to play, I got two pop-up windows that mentioned errors and asked if I wanted to continue with the defective script or not. At the same time, another window (this was a M2 window) popped up and gave me a whole list of script entries that had too many paths. I don't know what the issue is there.
But I started the game anyway. Thankfully there were speeches.
HOWEVER, there were a number of other problems that I did NOT have before I installed the patches.
After a battle against Sicily, I was all happy b/c I had captured the enemy general and many of his men. I WAS NOT given any kind of screen asking if I wanted to ransom, release, or execute them.
I also fought a battle against Scotland in which the Scots had 3 generals. I killed all of them. In the first one, a window slid down that said I had killed so-and-so. Then I killed the next one, and another window came up that said I had killed the same guy! Then, I killed the commanding general, and no window showed at all.
I remember that this was listed as a fixed issue in the 1.2 patch, so I am confused.
My options screen says I have version 1.03.
So basically, the game worked better before I patched it! What is the problem? Did I get a corrupted download?
Should I uninstall the whole game, or just the patches and re-patch? Or do I just need to follow the list that lists files with too many paths and delete them (if there are duplicates, which I am assuming is the case)?
I am really quite confused, and it drives me berserk when I have this cool new game, and all the neat features are disabled.
Thanks again!

Re: Patches Causing Problems?
If you want it right, delete the 1.1 patch and ignore its existense.
Uninstall the game, reinstall the dvds, install 1.2 patch. Reason? CA forgot to make 1.2 upgadable from 1.1.

Re: Patches Causing Problems?
If your options screen says 1.03, you're patched. There are no other Medieval2 patches.
Bad downloads being possible? At 650+mb, there have been many. I downloaded it three times to get a good one. Then I bought Kingdoms, end of problem because all the patches are on it.
Starting at 180 and two years per turn 140-odd turns is right.
I have mine patched to Kingdoms 1.5 and every update I have had the release/ransom/execute option. You have a corrupted download.

Re: Patches Causing Problems?
Kingdoms has fixes that never made it into Medieval2 and never will for all intents and purposes. You have to have Kingdoms to play it but if you like the feel of Medieval2, play the Retrofit mod.
