    Default Attack or wait?

Just curiously, stemming from discussion in another thread, do people prefer to attack sieged settlements (and if so, what with?), or do they prefer to risk the chance of reinforcements and starve them out?

Personally I always risk starving them out, even if they pull up reinforcements I can use my own skill to minimalise casualties, but in a siege battle it's brutal no matter what you do.

Totally depends on what i'm fighting, if Rebels, I Attack, if Attacking a fortress, i usually starve them out and Rout them when they sally out, Elves are particualy good at this due to their outstanding archers.

I attack as soon as i can. The heavy infantry of the Dwarves is excellent for siege battles and i usually prefer to fight on the walls cause my enemy has always more troops. But on the walls he can't use his advantage and need to fight 1vs1 against my infantry.

I - Dwarves - try to attack asap. Atleast when fighting Rhûn, because I know I have troubles with them in the open field. And as Temudschin said, Dwarves are superior on the walls (give or take a few units)

Attack. As HE I use Swordsmen, heavy Swordsmen and Spearmen to take the walls. I like to use multiple Siege towers and rams AND catapults/Ballista so that I can put archers on or over thier wall and catch them with flaming arrow crossfires. As previously posted it can get costly to take cities as the Elves. I have been pretty succesful so far. If there are Trolls on the walls I kill them with arrows first . If not I blow a hole in the wall and try to harass them with arrows to taunt them out ( or just kill them) . I hate taking Dwarven cities though.

    I'd say... starve them out.
Especially if it's Gondor. When I was to take W. Osgiliath, they only had one general unit there, so I besieged them. The next turn they arrived with two reinforcement armies that together equalized my army, but I just attacked the settlement with a night battle, and the reinforcements weren't able to fight on the battlefield

I prefer calling in some B-52's and Carpet Bombing the city rather than assaulting it with my infantry. But that's just me.

it depends for example if i see enemy's additional troops are coming i attack
in case of rebels i dont wait because they cant harm much
if there is fortress then i wait for some turns but not 9 out of 9 turns

I enjoy starving my enemy. Like attacking an isolated settlement, starve them till the last turn the stop siege then start again. It takes forever and is risky but it reduces your possible losses by alot.
The AI is like a retarded overwieght child. He realy want all those fries, he just does not know how to get them. http://img1.coolspacetricks.com/imag...unny/81776.gif

I've played Mordor all the time I've played, so I guess that's not a valid reason for me not to attack.

Starve Minas Tirith untill Rohan arrives!

If I`m elves I wait, because their archers slaughter the enemy when they sally out. Against rebels I usually attack, to, but against stronger foes I wait. If I am superior in numbers (very superior), I just attack to be done with it.

I usually take full stack of units with me when doing siege (just incase garrison script kicks in..). Then I usually even out (armystrenghts 1:1, better change to get good ancs/traits for generals, and more challenging) my and defending forces (move away some of my troops from my army, if necessary), and attack as soon as possible.

    • no reinforcements possible
Agreed and AI usually don't starve me out, so I don't do it neither.

I almost always attack eventually because it's more fun than sitting and waiting and this is a game after all.

For me it depends on the situation. If the settlement I'm attacking has high level walls or the garrison is almost full I generally try to starve them out for a while to reduce their numbers. However, if the enemy is sending reinforcements or I outnumber the enemy by a significant margin I'll attack as quickly as possible.
