If let's say the Turks are already at war with the Byzantine Empire, you can improve your relations with the Turks by sending a diplomat to them and offering to attack the Byzantine Empire as a gift.

That's one diplomatic way of improving relations through waging battles, that I know of.

Also, crushing the foes of your allies can help your relations with them too.

I tried to rewrite a bit of code in descr_faction_standing, this is just to TEST the effect. When you execute prisoners (orcs if you play elves for example), your reputation should increase with the free people, while baddies should hate you more. Maybe a real codder should enlighten us

    Code:
    Trigger 0100b_prisoners_executed_decrease_global
        WhenToTest FactionLeaderPrisonersRansomedCaptor

        Condition RansomType execute

        FactionStanding global 0.01
        FactionStanding target_faction normalise -1.0 80
        FactionStanding target_allies normalise -1.0 160
        FactionStanding own_religion 1.0
        FactionStanding target_religion -1.0
        FactionStanding religion northmen 1.0

As I said here before, papio made a sub mod that corrects it. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=266095 You should try it.

The diplomatic system still sucks in M2:TW...

Whatever I do, my reputation is always despicable... I don't betray anyone, I don't enter their territories without military access, I don't switch alliances every turn, etc.

Often a message saying "relations with faction X worsened" appears. But I haven't done anything wrong!

Does anyone know a solution to this?

If you execute your prisoners every time, your reputation will go down.
Same for sacking and exterminating settlements.
Sig made by me, content from Broken Crescent.

Attacking an evil faction, whcih is at war with your allies, will improve overall your relationship with that ally in the long run.... improving in the short term you will have to offer your "attack" as a gift...... this also goes the otherway...... if you are allied with a freindly faction, but you are not at war with their foe, your relationship will not improve... and if you are also trading with their foe this will result in a small decline of your overall relationship
