So is this possible? Like giving the Romans 500 men per cohort?
Would be cool.![]()
No, it's not possible. Max amount is 240 + 3 officers.![]()
it would be very hard to support. i can only barely support huge settings.
I got a driver update that allows me to play on huge with medium settings... but I doubt I could run a life size legion...
Anyway, having 500 men is actually possible! It just involves editing codes that are protected under the license agreement.![]()
I like pie.
But the codes for 500 men in one unit is not even written! You would have to write all the pathfinding and all sort of codes just to see 500 men in a unit.
It doesn't make sense to increase a size of a single unit. It wouldn't be even historical, as for example, in Roman early republican armies, a maniple of hastati or principes got only 120 men. I would rather prefer:
- the max number of units per army to be increased
- switching between armies in battle
- or just be able to control the AI armies, like in M2TW:Kingdoms, but on a greater scale
But all of it as well as increasing the faction limit, would involve CA releasing a patch for RTW, which is, let's say, unlikely to happen.
P.S. And there's still a question who could afford to run smoothly a 10- or 15,000 men battle. I could not (for now) as I can barely run a 6- 7,000 men battle on 'huge' settings (and it still looks more like a slideshow - it gets better when half of the soldiers get killed
).

I'm sittin' here completely surrounded by no beer.
It's too bad CA didn't incorporate multiple army management into E:TW. That would have been epic! One could have simulated armies as those seen in the Napoleonic Wars...well not completely lol
I've tried manipulating some variables in R:TW to change the unit maximum sizes to such numbers like 500+. It worked cosmetically in Custom Battles. ( When selecting units for your army, one can see the unit count as 500+ respectively) But after loading into the battle field the unit sizes revert back to their original count stated in the edu file. And like someone said earlier, it'd be a lot of work to get the pathing right.
It is hardcoded.I preying that CA will some day make all hardcoded things possible to edit

They already did. For one, you can have ultra-big armies in ETW with a mod, and some modders manage to allow the player to command more than 20 units in the demo.

there would be a little particular reguard Romans! because a coorth of 500 men would not be historically accurate! a roman coorth was composed by 80 men or max 100 men!
Actually a legion was divided up to 10 cohorts wich had 480 men each. But first cohort had 800 men. Each cohort was divided to 6 centuria's and 1 centuria had 80 men.
EDIT: If it would be possible to control more units, then I would prefer using centuria's or maniples instead of cohorts. As controlling units with 500+ men could become difficult.

Well it would be terribly buggy that's for sure. Last time my 243 men melted together into one and began marching up against the solid wall of a city. Now think what would happen if there would be 500 men!
Also, fighting in narrow areas - such as the streets of cities and forts - would make it horrible to manoeuvre with so large units. It's quite irritating already how stupidly units follow commands on huge settings. So yeah, rather more units, than larger ones.
