    Default Which Card To Chose?

OK so i'm building a computer. So far i got all the pieces except that i can't make up my mind whether to go with ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295. Can someone help me chose? i ca't make my mind, they both seem good and seem to be very close in power to each other. I saved up my mone to build my gamming PC but ths part is taking so long to chose. Which do you guys think i sould go with?

GTX 295 is better, but more expensive than the 4870x2. It's up to you whether that extra 10 fps is worth the $500 price tag when a 4870x2 can go for easily go for $400.

Another thing, what's wrong with this Sapphire 4870x2? It's $100 cheaper than the one you listed, along with a $10 MIR and free shipping.

Also, is your mobo going to have SLI or Crossfire support? Because, it might be cheaper, and probably even better, to SLI or Crossfire a GTX 275 or a 4890.

Yes, my motherboard does have Crossfire and SLI support. I just wanted to go with a High End card, just one, but really good and maybe next year i can save during my summer job and buy another one IF i need it.

EDIT: I did not even see tat Saphire card. Thanks.

5 years? I bet that was what people were saying about the 9800 GX2. A graphic card's reign of terror usually only lasts 2-3 at the most.

Kinda hard when both Nvidia and AMD will be releasing next-gen cards based on directx11 within 6 months.

I was going to put down the cash on a 295 now but I'm gonna wait for at least performance figures from the new cards. If they aren't that much of an improvement I can still get the 295 at a reduced price, or I can go and get the new card with dx11 compatibility. Thats what I would suggest you do as well.

    The it will.

But in this case, 295 > 4870x2 since money does not seem to be a problem.

My two 9800gtx's beat a 295 in 3dMark06, just. However, 3dMark06 only really considers the max frame rate, rather than a constant, overall framerate, in which case the 295 wipes the floor with my 9800's. However, again, you can get two 9800's for half the price of one 295...

    4000?

    More like 1600-1700

Honestly if you're paying for a 4000$ PC, the Price to Performance ratio rapidly goes down the drain.

Just out of interest, what's your 3dMark06 score?

    Available here: http://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/3dmark06/download/

This won't give a really true score for your machine, 3dMark Vantage is the one for you, it's, as I say, just out of interest?
