Default Creating a World - Reduced City Textures

Some might be familiar with this. Unfortunately the link to the download doesn't exist anymore so I added the files as an attachment.

    How it works:
Reduced city textures from original 2048x2048 to 512x512 resolution, it helps to reduce lag at high texture setting (less HD access, faster loading

    Installation:
-unpack in MTW2 directory preserving directory structure.
-run main game with --io.file_first switch (mods have this in their CFG file)

    Uninstalling:
    -delete data\blockset\ directory.
    The original is from ziher

    Download Link

WinRAR will give errors, due to the latest version of WinZip (12.0 Pro 8252) that I used. I downloaded the file and unpacked it with WinZip without problems.

Greetings, sorry for waking up the post. As some of us, I have an old computer. Mine is laptop with 1Gb RAM, Win XP and dedicated 128 MB X3100 GMA. I installed the Reduced City Textures mod and tried many variations: shader 1/2 + building detail high/low + texture details low/medium/high. According the instructions, to see the effect it is needed to change to shader 2 and texture details high. With this mod it goes +2 FPS faster with shader 1 instead the shader 2. Also I noticed, that I get more FPS in when set the textures to low (the same as without mod) than the high with mod. So as the conclusion of my notification: Mod works on textures high, shader 1, but on vanilla 1.3 textures low, shader 1 works better.

You could say that I didn't installed mod properly, but on vanilla textures high, shader 1 goes very bad, with mod - good, but not good as low on vanilla. The question would be to the players, which noticed the huge changes in FPS after installing this mod. How increased the FPS ? Example, right now in the city (larger than big town) I have 4-5 FPS with mod with textures high, shader 1, and 5-6 FPS with textures low, shader 1.

I would be grateful for answers or for the solution to my problem. I know, the easiest would be to buy the new PC. But I'm on secondment with my laptop for a long time and I can't physically have or use the another one. Thank You

That is minimum specs and that is all you will get for performance on your old laptop. Some with your specs have had to settle for campaign only until they could upgrade.

Did you try? The issue is 18 months old and I would expect the newer versions of WinRAR to handle it.

I've used the three yearold version of Winrar on it and it works. 7zip also works on it.

So I just put this in the Medieval II folder? And it isn't going to get rid of any past data is it? Since its called data and such?

If you have not unpacked the game, then no existing files will be overwritten. The files will be installed into ...\data\blockset\textures

What exactly do you mean by unpacked? If i have the game installed already, can I not just put it in the Medieval II folder?

Alright. Hopefully I can play siege battles now...

And I just put data in? I look like an idiot asking all these questions. Or do I put the contents of data into the Medieval II/data folder?

It's been too long since I did it.

It sould just go in the Medieval II Total War\data folder.

Check it when it's done and if you end up with data\data, oops, and move its folder up to the first data.
