Fatal Error when i END GAME?!?!?!

i know this isnt so serious, but i cant save game settings (like bilinear, unit size = huge and removin the restrict camera etc)

simply because, i quit the game and when i get to desktop it says *medieval 2 has encountered a fatal error and will now exit*

what the hell?!!! (it also happens on my third age total war mod)

any ideas? some help would be most welcome. having to re-do all the game settings is starting to do my head in.

ps - its mtw2 gold im using. and its only the mods - my original works fine ¬_¬
