Conquest of Prussia

Helo guys.

Well as I'm realy disapointed by "Empire: Total War", I decided to go back to the good old "Medieval II: Total War" and to do a Mod I always wanted to.

I'm a big fan of the Kingdoms-Teutonic campaign, but I always thought it wasn't concentrated on the conques ot the baltic lands enough.So I decided to do a mod about the beginning of the Teutonic State.


The mod should start at 1226 when the polish Duke of the Piasts, Duke Konrad I. of Masovia called the Teutonic Order for help in War against the Prussians and for conquering the Culmer Land.
So the native baltic tribe of the Prussians (Prusai) should be a faction.Or maybe even all the different prussian tribes(?).

My friend, I would like to help as much as I can. I am also interested in this era and this particular place. Some months ago, I was member of same kind of mod, Livonia Total War, but due to the lack of manpower, it died...You can search for it, it might contain some useful information. I myself am from Estonia, so for that part of map, research is good as covered

Erm...I guess they can just take the Teutonics map, it perfectly covers the area of interest.

Yes, correct, I will do totaly new map, very concentrated on baltic region, most on prussia.

Also I'm thinking about doing an early era and a late era campaign.Late era would begin in 1226 with teutonic faction.And second would beginn in 1015, when the danish king Knut the big of denmark conquered the prussian gau of Sambia.

Well, polish borders weren't much bigger in west, as there was no united poland.
In fact I wanted to do all 10 prussian tribes as single factions, but as there are no coat of arms of this different regions in that time, I'll do the prussians as a united faction.

There is much we don't know about the Prussians, but it would appear that they used Balto-Slavic religious symbols and gods for their banners. That's something you might want to consider. Here's a link:

Not a hundred per cent sure how reliable this is - it all appears to check out - but hopefully it'll give us a better clue...

You've got my blessing guys. Though take into considaration that presented map is from 1260y and in 1224 the boarder between Poland and HRE were much different - Poland's territory were larger on the west - even beyond Oder river. Also I would advise you to split Prussia faction at least into Prussians and Jatviengas (Sudovians). BTW the map present today's geography, while the coastline of Prussia and Kashubia was a bit different.

It's a very good idea, I decided to do this area but a hundred years later and somewhat larger. If you need info, I have done a lot of research on this area already. Perhaps we could help each other.

Update:We're going to start the mod within the next two weeks, as I completed some projects.I'm already working on a map.But we could need some scripter and modeller.

Some advices before you start working on the map. Here is more suitable reference map for Poland: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...01-1241%29.png
BTW different colors do not mean separate duchy, but lands united by Henryk Brodaty in different years. I can give you a good historical research about duchies of Poland in that period, if you want.

Also Pomerania in that period paid tribute to HRE but… also often fought with HRE Duchy of Stetin was populated by Slavs and ruled by Slavic dynasty. So I suggest making Pomerania separate faction. Taking this and reference map above into consideration – there is almost no HRE on the map. So you should definitely enlarge the map toward west, I would say.

BTW in that period HRE was more like a theory. In practice only March of Brandenburg was involved in politics in the region. So I suggest abandonment of HRE faction fictional idea and including March of Brandenburg – realistic solution. This would be the best option for historicity.

Also I’m not sure if Teutons appeared in Prussia region in 1226. I know it took them few years to come there after Konrad Mazowiecki invitation. Also in this year they would have only one small province in management – ziemia chełminska.

Ah, thanks for the polish map.Well first map impression was more concentrated on prussia and baltic region.Cancled that.Then it was concentrated on prussia only.Map was from Danzig to Kaunas.
Well as there is the option to do much larger maps I would do the map from Rügen/Stettin to Kaunas or Riga.But then there's the region problem, I'm not sure if 199 are enough to include all imporant spaces.
So it is still not clear how my map finaly will look like.But prussia is in center, that's for sure.Well for Poland there would be Masowia and Kujawa, maybe a small part of Wielkopolska.
SoO there would be factions like native prussia, teutonic order, duchys of -Kujawa, Pomerania, Rügen, Brandenburg, Mazowia and maybe Semigallians.

Also don't forget the prussian middlepoint of the mod.In 1036 Mundschenk Maslaus declared himself the duke of Mazowia, but the polish king Casimir kicked him out.He escaped to prussia.In 1042 Mazowia and with that prussia fell from the polish empire.That was the best time for Maslaus to attack poland with the prussians together.They were beaten.
Then from 1107 to 1111 the polish duke Boleslaw III. devastated prussia nearly completely.Only with the help of the pomeranian duke Gnewomit, the prussians could survive!

The history before the teutonic Order came, was very interesting.

Oh I#ve got a lot of information about the native prussians.
As I'm able to speack teh native prussian language I'm active in some prussian forums, where their history is shown.

Yep, for example I'll use the flag of their 3 gods for infantry.
