My spies never die, else of old: Before using a spy I save the game. If he dies I reload and the spy make something else.
Else, I almost never reload a game, even when I lost a battle or have a general assassinated.

I never cheat, because cheating sucks.![]()
I never cheat. I like to keep the challenge.
toggle_fow to see what others are doing
sometimes i auto_win if I'm hugely pissed off at a garrison script
Never.
What ever they tell you, save and reloading isn`t a cheat.
Sometimes I use the edges of the map to defend the flanks of my army.
Some would say it's tactics, others would say it's cheating. Anyway, their the most solid flanks I've ever witnessed.

IMO, losing battles is what makes the game fun. If there's no sense of challenge, than how is their anyfun. If you know regardless the outcome that you can just reload and fight the battle again, guaranteeing a win, where's the fun in and sense of pride in winning?
Well, when you have to fight every single (and probably boring) battle yourself, since auto result is simply uneconomic, you can have some comfort, can`t you?
And i don`t actually save because i fear to lose a battle, but because i experienced one time how my king got killed by an !lucky! ballista, a few seconds after the battle begun. The ballista had so many targets, all moving.. And she hits my 10 star king! And i hadn`t saved.
Quite traumatic.

I wonder if you have any fun playing a game when you win every single battle and know if you would lose you could reload.
I take my loses... I suffer them, even if it was my only army dieing on the battlefield... I take the lose.
Than I try to build up new Forces and defend my homeland against the hordes of my enemy.
If you win every battle you dont lose any settlements, dont you get bored after sometime?
Beeing able to reload doesn`t mean that you can win every battle.
Sometimes you are badly outnumbered (more than usuall).. Or you got an very bad starting location. Then even an saved game won`t help much.
And of course you can save only before you attack something. If you end your turn and an much strogner enemie stack attacks you, you are screwed. Except you use the autosave.. But that only works if you haven`t moved your general last turn. Rather unlikely.
Strange no one would condemn saving during a shooter.
You can also save after you ended your turn... even if an enemy attacks you just click "ESC"...
Nevermind.
I currently save before battles to make sure if my pc shuts down or something like this my campaign is not screwed but I "never" did any reload.
Every battle I play is thought out as much as possible, I am an tactican, even if I am outnumbered I normally manage to win a battle againt the AI.
Currently I am at turn ~150 of my Silvan Campaign. I won 65 Battles and lost 3. I knew every single of those lost battles. One was caused by an ambush in mirkwood where mordor ambushed a half stack of my army. As youre not able to deploy your forces when ambushed I got screwed from two sides causing an Clear Defeat.
The other two times a army of mine was attacked which had no movement points left.
One Time it was 1:8 against me, the other time it was 1:6...
I know those loses... all three were Herois-fights. I actually remember them cause I fought hard trying to win them... but if I would know that I can reload if something goes wrong my whole atmopshere would go away.
Losing Battles is one of the Essences of this game.
I never cheat, not if i have no or - money, nor if i loose any battle or settlement, nor if anybody gets killed.....
It takes away lots of fun i think, but i don't have a problem if somebody saves and reloads, cause i understand, and i think it's ok, but personally i don't like it.....
(I only hate it when people cheat money - or something like auto_win)

Never cheated, never reloaded unless the computer crashed. Doesn't feel right.
Jeah, I really, really hate that.
You're having a huge battle.
After a long fight, the battle is turning in your favour.
But then, suddenly, quiet like a spy or assassin, the desktop screen appears.
A message pops up: Medieval II: Total War has experienced an unforseen error and will now exit.
And it really does.
WTF? OMG!
Nooooanything but that...
Another silly thing that happened to me a couple of times: I forgot to have to connect the battery to the outlet. My battery is, so in the middle of a battle, the computer shuts down.
Crap.
