They certainly do, just look at all the different Christian sects that are around now for instance.

should I add a poll to this so we can get a view of the opinion of the members here on TWC ?

Not everything needs a poll. Just read the thread if you want opinions.

And of course religions change over time. Good luck finding a mormon church in 300 AD.
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and many things I don’t know anything about. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing.

No, this is not a opinion, it is a fact that religions change over time.

Perfect example if Judaism. They used to sacrifice animals, now they don't.

" Perfect example if Judaism. They used to sacrifice animals, now they don't."

    finsternis,

Animal sacrifice was but a cover to keep the tribes of Israel Holy, being only a copy, or type and shadow of the real sacrifice to come. When the Lord Jesus Christ finished the work set for Him, the Temple, the source of animal sacrifice, was destroyed and hasn't been allowed to be rebuilt, nor will it.

There just is no more need for the Temple or the sacrifices since Christ's actions at the cross was a once only affair never to be repeated. Strangely the churches of all denominations believe that the Temple must be rebuilt but on what grounds I cannot fathom. What would be the point of even ceremonially going through the motions with animals when the real thing has been done and finished?

Now that doesn't mean that religion has changed for the sake of changing or any other reason other than what was but a copy is no longer a copy in the sense that we need it. All it is is a continuation of the Gospel story in full flow. But there are still Jews who do seek to rebuild for sacrificial purposes but then most of them have never grasped the Gospel.

    Short answer: yes...VERY yes
Religions change over time to accommodate new ideas or to defend themselves from upcoming evidence

    yes.

As scientific breakthroughs have continuously corrected and proved the church wrong the priest caste have had to modernize their religion to retain their power.

I highly doubt religon changes a whole lot based on science....

Christianity Really changed from 1000-1500, without any major influence from Science. They will change over time based on a change in beliefs, and what the people fell as though they need/want out of a religon at that time. Now a days people want a religon that can explain some of the more scientific questions of the Universe. So in that respect you are right, thats why there are alot more atheists, and differing forms of christianity, and spiritualism, that have been on the rise as of late.

But on the other hand this was not the case in earlier years, religon would change based on war and influence from other cultures. Christianity, and Islam changed alot during the Crusades, both of them becoming distinctly more war like.

So does religon change? Yes. Why? Simple: Because people change.

I wanna lie, lie to myself, myself and someone else. Cause it’s the lying that hurts, and it’s the hurt that lets me know I’m alive.”

Well here's a lecture on this very topic. It's rather long but also good.

Of course. There isn't a religion that hasn't changed over time. Or else it wouldn't exist; it would have faded away as the times changed.

    master412160,

Religions do what religions do. Yet there is one that is not a religion but a faith that has never changed at all. Built on gradual revelation from it's core message we who live now know what that message was from the beginning so do we do any different from those that were in on the beginning?

The answer to that is no, if only because we are but the recipients of what a far greater Being than us does because we cannot do it ourselves. While religions and their legions strive to attain the standards they think they themselves can attain, it is our God and Saviour who by grace attained it for us.

Religion, well it requires work, idols and beads to act as a crutch because it has none of the ingredient that the one true belief has, it's priesthoods set on replacing what is so simple by their dead letter teachings that Paul calls other gospels. But our Saviour has only one Gospel and it requires only faith from Him to you.

What priest, prophet or imam ever laid down his life for you that you might live on and on for eternity? Yet their demands are not small with regards to the lives of men that they would direct man into every possible avenue that keeps man from the simple truth that is the message of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The very first Christians were essentially just a Jewish sect, nothing like Christianity as we know it today.

Judaism did not deny the existence of other gods at first, (which can still be seen in certain OT texts)
and was likely originally not a monotheism but a dual theism with a male and female god (though admittedly I could have picked this up from one of those feminist Mother/goddess sites that just makes up BS to attack the patriarchal world)

So I'd say those are pretty big differences.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Early Hebrew religion wasn't duotheist. That theological concept really came into being in the 19th and 20th centuries, and was hijacked by feminist spirituality groups (and misattributed to Wicca, whose theology is more Hermetic). There are no ancient religions, to my knowledge, which were expressly duotheistic.

Pre-Judaism religion in the Hebrew tribes was initially polytheistic, with El and Asherah as chief deities. Gradually, perhaps due to the influence of Egyptian monism, this became henotheistic, centring on El. Eventually, this henotheism became monotheistic; probably around the time the Torah was written, hence there are some mixed messages in its text.

    Yes and No.

Christianity is constantly spoken about in this thread.
Christianity itself is a faith, a belief in God and that he is almighty/our creator, and a belief that you can have a personal relationship with him through praying and reading the word.
Religion is something that steamed from it when people became Catholics etc. These religions are formed through different ways of understanding Gods word. So in truth, religion is man made.

However some Christians still try to live as close to the bible says as they can.
