    Default Men's Rights

I admit, I'm generally liberal in my views (Liberal in the american politics definition of the word), but when it comes to gender equality in the developed world, I feel that theres been great injustice. So much has been done for women's rights (and rightly so, at least a few decades ago), that equality for men seemed to have been forgotten. With women becoming as educated as men (and census shows they are becoming more educated than men, with better results and accomplishments), its high time that the attention is shifted to males. Education's only one of the several issues that plague gender equality. Theres other stuff too, like conscription (of which i applaud Israel for making it equal), and divorce laws.

Now I'll give it to you that many men often misbehave, but that does not make it okay for the general sentiment that if its a woman's word against a man's, its the man thats often up to no good. I'm sure when most of us are brought up, we have experienced, be it in school or ate home, that boys are often treated harsher than girls. We have to stop thinking about our differneces, be it gender or race, when dealing with such issues.

However, it is a damn pity that many people of the men's rights movement are nutcases. Many are extreme right wing nutjobs (and I'm sure none of you right wingers here qualify for such a title, so no offense meant), and some are just plain mad. I read on wiki (this ought to be reliable), that some people of a men's rights group in the UK wanted to kidnap Tony Blair's son. It is a real pity that men's groups don't have half as much substance as women's groups too. Perhaps they are right. Perhaps men can't work togehter afterall.

Edit: Oh shoot, wrong forum. Political mudpit please?

The only reason Israel made conscription equal for men and women is because they are a tiny nation with a low population surrounded by enemies. I would never want women in America to be drafted with the men, except at the greatest need. And why should they be drafted, anyway? Women are always free to join the military. There is no reason to force them along with the men.

Anyway. As a man, I find any "rights for males" campaigns extremely insulting. As if we can't take care of ourselves.

Men still have the dominant position in just about every culture in every nation around the world.

    We don't need any help.

    This.

As the dominant human gender ever since there have been humans based solely on our physical characteristics, we don't need any help. As much as there are "women's rights", we do not live in a totally equal society. It is still stratified in some areas -- for instance the glass ceiling and the fact that on average, men receive more pay to do the same work with the same education as their female counterparts. There is definitely no unfair discrimination against men.

archetypical people don't serve in the army so your argument falls short of that very simple fact.

One of the reasons is because woman take a leave of absence when pregnant, often for quite some time. This means they fall behind on experience compared to men of the same age and thus they receive less money.
    Purely from an economic aspect.

But men don't need to be defended. We've been dominant in virtually every culture.
Men still have advantages socially, in terms of connections and acceptance in business culture.

What I do have a problem with is the politically correct nonsense of trying to get women ahead. Not only is it bad for men who get passed in these situations, but it's degrading for women, who are left with the impression they need special attention.

    1) Your views on conscription is so, because your country doesnt have mandatory mustering. In countries with such, men end up a couple of years behind women in terms of education, career and finances.

    2) If I have it my way, all single men and women ought to be drafted in times of war, with women doing non frontline duties of course, leaving married men and women with their children.

    3) Can women in developed countries like North America take care of themselves? I find that they do jsut fine, sometimes even better than men. Why should you find such campaigns insulting? Men's rights campaign for EQUAL treatment of men, not privileges. Are you a sexist?

The only reason there has been a woman's rights movement is because males have been treated as social superiors up until these days (even though sexism still exists). We have all the rights we need, and don't need anything more. Also women are more biologically capable at some things than men are (hence the stuff you said about better education etc.)
Differences of intelligence between genders is debatable. Some scientific data as of today points that testosterone aids in intelligence, although conclusions are still controversial.

Alright, why do women's rights exist in developed countries today? Isn't everything more or less equal for them now? One of the things men's rights fight for is equality in divorce proceedings. Right now, custody of children are more often than not given to the mother, even if shes the adulterer. A child needs his dad as much as his mom. You'd find that children without a father figure in their childhood have a relatively high risk of turning errant. You'd often find a single mom's fund or single mom's support group instead of a single parent or single fathers alternative. I'd rather it be single parents' instead.

When women will become prime ministers, Nobel prize winners, inventors, CEOs and military leaders on a massive scale, I will start worrying about men's rights. Until then, women have the right to wash your clothes, have sex with, and bring beer from the supermarket.

You missed the argument here. Its not that they haven't, but that its not the norm.

Sexism is still present everywhere in the world, in any culture, any country, any continent.

I guess you have no idea what a true equality between males and females would mean. Even without trying to reach this (in my opinion utterly stupid) aim, there's still a helluva work to do before women have the role they rightly deserve.

As long as women don't hold doors to men because the later are traditionally considered weakers, then our (us guys) situation is not nearly as bad as you make it seems.

Équal pay for equal work' is a farce. You get males and females working under the same award pay rate and you get men doing all the hard labour while most of the girls do various other non-physically demanding or non-risky things.

If there is a minor domestic incident the male almost always loses, even if he's been punched in the face numerous times and merely defends himself via a firm hold.

Boys are the naughty ones in all the tales. This says a lot about culture. Don't think I've ever met a female who isn't convinced she's always in the right and runs off to her 50,000 intimate friends at the first sign of a challenge to her world view while bleating about her moral martyrdom.

That having been said, men don't need some drum-beating crying group like feminists do. That's just......weak as piss.

Then it's not equal work. Women on average get paid 15% less for the exact same work in the private sector in the EU. And this is where it gets even more hilarious, farce-like even. We're better educated and continue to become better educated. And yet the pay gap has been consistent for over a decade.

Under the stern but loving patronage of Nihil.
